What is the ESE Exam?
ESE full form is Engineering Services Examination’. ESE Selection Process 2026
The UPSC ESE examination selection process has been divided into 3 stages:-
1. ESE prelims examination: The ESE preliminary examination is considered the first stage. ESE prelims exam is objective in nature, and it has 2 papers, i.e.:
- Paper 1: General Studies and engineering aptitude
- Paper 2: Engineering discipline-related
2. ESE Mains examination: The ESE Mains examination is descriptive in nature. ESE MAINS examination test is about the technical knowledge of the candidates in the engineering discipline. For the Mains examination, the candidate must have the conceptual clarity and answer-writing skills. ESE Mains exam result for 2026 has not yet been declared. It will be declared soon on the official website.
3. ESE interview: Under this stage, the candidates who have cleared the mains examination are invited for the personality test. In this interview, candidates’ technical knowledge, decision-making ability, personality, communication skills, and administrative aptitude is assessed.
The candidates who are eligible will receive the official call letter from the UPSC, which contains the details about the interview schedule, venue, required documents, reporting time and UPSC ESE interview-related guidelines.
