For the season 2026-27, the applications for IIT Palakkad M.Tech Admission were opened on the 26th March 2026. It was closed on 25th April 2026. Candidates appearing for the GATE 2027 can expect the application window to open around March-April 2027.

Admission Criteria and Eligibility
The IIT Palakkad M.Tech admission criteria is mainly based on a valid GATE score. There are M.Tech admissions through GATE and non-GATE. Let us see the IIT Palakkad M.Tech eligibility criteria listed below:
- Candidates must have cleared GATE in the paper they are applying for. The GATE score is valid for three years.
- Candidates must hold a 4-year bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology from a recognized institution.
- For Computer and Mathematics, a master’s degree in Mathematics is also accepted. A valid GATE score is also required in the CS/MA branch.
- For Data Science, candidates must have a 4-year UG degree (BE/BTech/BS) in any discipline. Candidates with an MSc degree in Data Science/AI/ML/Mathematics/Statistics/Applied Mathematics/Physics are accepted along with GATE qualification in DA/CS.
- BTech graduates from IITs with CGPA of 8.0 or above can apply without a GATE score.
- Sponsored candidates (from industry, R&D organisations, government departments) can apply without a GATE score.
- Foreign nationals with a relevant bachelor’s degree can also apply.
IIT Palakkad M.Tech Admission Process Through GATE
The M.Tech admission through GATE is based purely on merit. There are no tests or interview processes for most programmes. However, the institute conducts interviews for foreign national categories.
- Register on COAP: Before applying, you must register on the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP). Applications without a valid COAP registration number are rejected.
- Apply online: Submit the application through the official PG admission portal along with the application fee.
- Upload documents: Upload birth certificate, category certificate (if any), nationality proof. Moreover, you must upload your degree certificates, GATE scorecard and proof of fee payment.
- Shortlisting and seat allotment: Seat allotment happens through COAP counselling rounds, based on GATE score and category.
- Provisional offer and fee payment: Upon selection, you will receive a provisional offer letter. To confirm your seat, you must pay the seat acceptance fee.
