B.E/B.Tech (Primary eligible degrees for the GATE 2025 exam)

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and Technology (The candidate must have enrolled in a 4-year program after completing 10+2 successfully). In the case of diploma programs, the candidate must have completed 3-year education under the diploma in Engineering or Technology.

The candidate must be currently in his/her 3rd academic year or completed the 3-year or 4-year program.

2025

B.Sc (Research)/B.S.

In this case, the qualifying degree is a bachelor’s degree in Science. Both post-diploma candidates and those who have enrolled in the 4 years program after completing 10+2 are eligible for this program.

Professional programs such as MBBS, BDS, or B.V.Sc.

One of the recent developments associated with the GATE eligibility criteria is that professionals and students pursuing professional degrees such as MBBS, BDS, and B.V.Sc. can also apply for the GATE 2025 exam.

The concerned authorities consider the GATE eligibility criteria 2025 in terms of semesters for these professional degrees.  Candidates who are present in their 5th or higher semester can apply and sit for the GATE 2025 exam. Apart from this, candidates who have completed their professional degrees also fall under the GATE 2025 Eligibility Criteria by Qualifying Degree.

Master’s degrees such as M.Sc/M.A./MCA or equivalent

In this category, candidates associated with the Master’s degree in fields such as Science, Arts, Computer Applications, Mathematics, and Statistics are allowed to sit for the exam.

Candidates presently in their first or higher academic year of the master’s degree fall under the eligibility criteria for GATE. If you have completed any of these degrees, then also you can sit for the competitive exam.

B.Sc (Agriculture, Horticulture, and Forestry)

This is a useful program comprising a 4-years academic curriculum.

If a candidate is presently pursuing this degree, he/she must be in his 3rd or 4th year of the program. You can even appear for the program if you have completed this program recently or a couple of years back.

B.Arch

GATE 2025 eligibility criteria by qualifying degree in this category are applicable for the Bachelor’s degree for different courses associated with the field of Architecture. This includes Bachelor’s degree or Architecture, which is a 5-year degree, unlike most other science and engineering niche programs. The other eligible programs include Naval Architecture and Planning. Each of these programs comprises 4 academic years in their curriculum.

The interested candidate must be at least in his/her 3rd academic year in this particular program.

The expected year of completion for this program varies with the total tenure of the respective program.  The expected year of completion for a Bachelor’s degree and naval architecture is 2025, whereas the respective expected year of completion for the 5-year program is 2025.

Int M.E./M.Tech/M.Pharm or Dual degree.

The concerned authorities have also included the integrated M.E./M.Tech/M.Pharm in the GATE 2025 Eligibility Criteria by Qualifying Degree. It is important to note that the authorities will count a candidate’s dual degree after completion of the Diploma program.

The interested candidates must be currently in their 3rd academic year. Apart from this, candidates can also appear for the GATE exam after they have completed their integrated degrees.

Int M.Sc/ Int B.S. – M.S.

GATE exam eligibility criteria also include exams that are equivalent to regular degrees such as B.E./B.Tech/B.Arch. Eminent organizations such as UPSC, AICTE, or MoE. Once the candidate has completed the Section A part of the exam that is equivalent to the earlier mentioned exams, he can apply for the GATE exam. Note: Enrollment year: 31st May 2013.*

After completing 10+2, the 6-year program comprises residency training or internship with core learning years.
