Important Note: Final Year / Semester students who expect their final results by 14.08.2026 are also eligible to apply, provided they have obtained a minimum 60% marks or equivalent CGPA in aggregate of all semesters/years up to pre-final examination. In case of selection, their candidature shall be subject to their securing a minimum of 60% marks in the essential qualification. Such candidates need to mention their marks up to the pre-final examination while filling out the online application form for POWERGRID.

Age Limit:

Upper age limit for general candidates: 28 years as on 31.12.2025. However, reservations have been given to different classes as per government orders. Here, we have mentioned the same:

Selection Process in PGCIL

  • Candidates who qualify in the corresponding GATE 2026 paper will be eligible to proceed to the next stage of selection.
  • The qualifying marks will be as notified by the GATE 2026 conducting authority.
  • Qualified candidates will be shortlisted category-wise for Group Discussion and Personal Interview based on their normalized scores out of 100 in the GATE 2026 paper, as decided by the Management.
  • Candidates can choose to appear in the Group Discussion and Interview in either Hindi or English.
  • Candidates can check their application status through their login on the POWERGRID Online Application System.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be able to download their interview call letters and other necessary documents through their login.
  • Candidates who are shortlisted for the Group Discussion and Interview must bring all the documents mentioned in their interview call letter.
  • Candidates must qualify in the Personal Interview to be considered for empanelment.

Salary at PGCIL

The Corporation offers a fair pay package. Selected candidates will be placed in the pay scale of ₹.40,000/- -3%- 1,40,000(IDA) during the one-year training period. So, as per the notification, the basic Pay will be of ₹40,000/- along with IDA, HRA, and Perks @12% of basic pay during the training period.

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited is a schedule ‘A’, Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Power, Govt. of India with 51.34% holding of Government of India and the rest is held by institutional investor and public. The company was incorporated on 23rd October 1989 under the company act, 1956.  Power Grid is India’s largest electric power transmission utility.

POWERGRID is engaged in power transmission business with the mandate for planning, co-ordination, supervision and control over complete Inter-State Transmission System and operation of national & regional power grids.

POWERGRID operates around 1,78,195 ckm Transmission Lines along with 278 Sub-Stations and wheels about 50% of total power generated in the country through its transmission networks.

POWERGRID also owns & operates around approximately 1,00,000 kms of telecom network, with points of presence in approx. 3000 and intra-city network in 500 cities across India.

Application Fee

UR candidates need to pay Rs 500 as application fee (non-refundable) through online mode. SC/ST/PwBD/ Ex-SM/ Departmental candidates are exempted from payment of application fees.

Pay Scale

The Corporation offers a very attractive pay package and is one of the best in the Industry. Selected candidates will be placed in the pay scale of Rs.40,000/- -3%- 1,40,000(IDA) during the one-year training period. They shall be paid Basic Pay of Rs. 40,000/- along with IDA, HRA and Perks @12% of basic pay during training period. The approximate CTC per annum shall be as follows:

During training Rs 10.70 Lakh
After Training Rs 21.40 Lakh

 

The CTC shall vary depending on location of posting and other terms and conditions of appointment. On successful completion of training, the candidates will be absorbed as Engineer in E2 scale – Rs. 50,000/- 3%- 1,60,000/- (IDA). On regularization, Compensation package includes Basic Pay, Dearness Allowance, Perquisites and Allowance as per cafeteria approach, Performance Related Pay, Company Leased Accommodation / Company Quarters or HRA, Reimbursement of monthly conveyance expenditure, digital services reimbursement, uniform, laptop facility, PF, Gratuity, Pension & Leave encashment, Group Insurance, Group Personal Accident Insurance, etc. The Corporation also offers excellent facilities like Short- and Long-term Loans & Advances in subsidized rates including House Building Advance, Medical facilities for self and dependents, etc. to its regular employees in accordance with the policies of the organization from time to time.

Vacancies and reservation

Besides vacancies of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), vacancies also exist for the post of ENGINEER TRAINEE in various disciplines in Central Transmission Utility of India Limited (CTUIL), which is presently a wholly owned subsidiary of POWERGRID.

Posting locations of selected candidates in POWERGRID are likely to be in any of the POWERGRID offices, substations, transmission line offices, construction sites spread across the country & abroad. For CTUIL, selected candidates shall be posted in CTUIL office.

Service Agreement Bond

The selected candidates will be required to execute a service agreement bond to successfully complete the prescribed training period and thereafter serve the organization for at least three years. The amount of the bond is INR 5,00,000/- for General/ OBC (NCL)/EWS candidates and INR 2,50,000/- for SC/ST/PwBD candidates.

Empanelment of Candidates:

As the vacancies exist both for POWERGRID and CTUIL, the empanelment of candidates shall be as under: – Candidates shortlisted for GD and interview may have to undergo Psychometric Assessment, results of which shall be used as an input during the interview.

Candidates who qualify in Personal Interview will only be adjudged suitable for empanelment.

Candidates should have qualified in GATE 2025 and in Personal Interview separately in order to be considered eligible for empanelment. Please note that only GATE 2025 score (Normalized Marks out of 100) is valid for this recruitment process. GATE score of 2024 or prior is not valid.

Empanelment shall be done based on total vacancies and not separately for POWERGRID & CTUIL. Operation of panel shall be done on the basis of category wise/ overall merit, based on number of vacancies/ requirement and option / preference exercised by the candidate at the time of applying. The Offer shall be issued to the candidate for POWERGRID / CTUIL (as applicable), on the basis of category wise/ overall merit, based on number of vacancies/ requirement and option / preference exercised by the candidate. The offer issued shall be withdrawn and cancelled in case the candidate does not wish to join POWERGRID / CTUIL (as applicable) or decline the offer. No request for change of organization shall be entertained.

Once a candidate gets offer from either POWERGRID / CTUIL, her/his candidature for other organization shall automatically be treated as cancelled, even if she/he declines the offer/ does not join the organization.

Mere submission of option/preference does not guarantee the candidature for being considered for 1st preference in the final selection. Corporation reserves the right to take a final decision in this regard. Selected candidates shall be notified through their candidate login in Online application system.

Application Process

  • From 30 September 2025 onwards, candidates have to register themselves online at POWERGRID website https://www.powergrid.in with details of their GATE 2025 registration number and other required information.
  • Online application shall close on 16 October 2025.
  • GATE Registration No. and GATE Application No. as appearing on the GATE 2025 Admit Card needs to be entered carefully in the online application form. No other number should be entered as GATE 2025 Registration number or GATE Application No. while applying. Please note that once your application is submitted, no request regarding change in GATE Registration Number or GATE Application No. or Name or any other details shall be entertained. Enter your name and other details exactly as entered in your GATE admit card.
  • Fill up other details in the application very carefully. Please take care while filling out the email/ alternative email fields since all important communication shall be through emails only.
  • Upon completion, the candidate should submit the online application by clicking the Submit button at the end of the page. If the same is accepted, the system will generate a unique POWERGRID Registration Number which shall appear in the completed application form.
  • If candidate is not exempted from payment of application fees (only SC/ST/PwBD/Ex-SM/ Departmental candidates are exempted), he/she is required to login to candidate login section and then deposit non-refundable application fees of Rs. 500/- through online mode.
  • Application process will be treated as complete only on submission of application fees.
  • No hard copy of application is required to be sent to any address by post.
  • In-complete applications / Draft applications/ applications without application fees (if applicable) will be rejected.

Important Instructions

  • Candidates will have to upload their latest colour passport size photograph (.jpg file size not exceeding 50 kb), scanned copy of signature (.jpg file size not exceeding 30 kb), DOB proof certificate/ caste certificate/ disability certificate/ discharge certificate/ age relaxation cum domicile certificate and qualification final passing certificate (final year appearing candidates to submit last semester/ year marksheet).
  • Candidates will have to correctly declare their Name and Date of Birth as mentioned in their matric certificate. Candidates will have to declare their category correctly and must be in a position to submit relevant certificate in original as and when asked by POWERGRID.
  • Candidates must correctly enter the qualification details including date of acquiring qualification as mentioned in their certificates. Candidates having qualifying degree from a discipline other than those as mentioned in the above referred advertisement, are not eligible to apply. However, the Corporation reserves the right to take a final decision in considering an Engineering discipline eligible in case different from those mentioned above.
  • Candidate should take a printout of the completed application and keep with him/ her safely for future reference.
  • If a candidate is called for GD and interview, her/ his identity would be verified with GATE 2025 admit card and Original GATE 2025 score card. Therefore, candidates are requested to retain their GATE 2025 admit card and score card with them.
  • Candidates shall be required to bring a valid photo ID to the interview. Photocopies of the original identification document shall not be acceptable. Candidates will not be permitted to appear for the group discussion and interview if original and valid photo identification is not presented along with the GATE 2025 admit card and score card.
  • Application once submitted may be edited/updated till last date of submission of online application.

General Instructions

  • Only Indian Nationals of age 18 years or above are eligible to apply for POWERGRID.

In case the candidates are awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of grades/CGPA to percentage of marks shall be based on the procedure certified by the university/ institution from where they have obtained the bachelor’s degree. In case the university/ institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing the candidate’s CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result with 100.
  • Candidates working in Govt. organizations / PSU are required to produce “No Objection Certificate” at the time of Interview.
  • Candidates claiming reservation under OBC (NCL) should belong to OBC- Non-creamy layer as on last date of online submission of application to POWERGRID.
  • Candidates claiming reservation under EWS should belong to EWS as on last date of online submission of application to POWERGRID.
  • Candidates selected in POWERGRID are liable to be posted anywhere in India and Abroad.
