The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) is a Government of India Public Sector Enterprise with its headquarters in Mumbai that operates and manages vessels that services both national and international lines.
SCI was established on 2 October 1961 by the amalgamation of Eastern Shipping Corporation and Western Shipping Corporation. Two more shipping companies, Jayanti Shipping Company and Mogul Lines Limited, were merged with SCI in 1973 and 1986 respectively.
SCI started out with 19 vessels. It gradually metamorphosed into a conglomerate having 80 ships of 5.9 million tonnes deadweight (DWT) with interests in different segments of the shipping trade.
SCI was also awarded the prestigious “Navratna“ status by Indian Government in 2008.
The SCI is the only Indian shipping company providing overseas Liner Break-bulk services to the Indian trade. The SCI arranges carriage of Break-bulk cargoes on a space charter basis from various regions across the globe including USA and Far East. This is offered for imports and exports in & out of India, which include shipments of Over-Dimensional Cargoes (ODC)/ Project cargoes/Heavy Lift cargoes/IMO Class I Cargoes and containers.
The SCI continues to operate its India-UK Continent Break-bulk service regularly from European ports to India on a space sharing basis.

Technical Assistant
Eligibility: I) B.E. /B. Tech. (Mechanical or Marine Engineering) II) Well versed with working in English for the drafting of letters to various parties and Administration. III) Work Experience in PSU or similar organization or on ship (as Junior Engineer) for 1 year.
Emoluments: Consolidated emoluments of Rs. 60,000/- per month. No other perks/ benefits/ allowances shall be admissible. Income Tax will be deducted at source as per prevailing rules.
Age Limit: Maximum 45 years (upper age limit as on 01.07.2019)
Location: The location would be Mumbai; however, the Company at its discretion may post the officer at any of its offices/projects as per its requirement.

Fleet Officers:
The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. has a requirement of fleet officers with an engineering background to assist the technical superintendents on various technical and administrative functions.
Qualification:
- Engineer Officers should possess Class IV Certificate of Competency (FG) and should have completed at least 12 months’ sea time.
- Should be regular SCI officers on SCI roster
Age:
- a) The age of the absorbed officer shall not exceed 35 years as on 31.12.2018
- b) Age limit is relaxable by 3 years for OBC officers and 5 years for SC/ST Officers
Pay Scale: Applications are invited from SCI Regular Officers onboard our owned & managed vessels for absorption ashore as Assistant Managers in the grade of E2 in the scale of Rs. 50,000 —1,60,000

Graduate Marine Engineers
Every year Shipping Corporation of India Limited invites Unmarried Mechanical Engineers for admission to Graduate Marine Engineers (GME) Course at SCI’s Maritime Training Institute at Powai, Mumbai
GME course is conducted at SCI’s Maritime Training Institute at Powai, Mumbai. This course is approved by Directorate General of Shipping (DGS). GME course comprises of pre-sea training of 08 months at MTI Powai and structured shipboard training of 10 months thereafter on ships operated by SCI.
- Eligibility:
Degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.E/B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering) from AICTE Approved Engineering College. Equivalent degree or degree with specialization or electives other than above educational qualification is not acceptable. Final year/semester students who have appeared and expect their results by date 31.12.2017 are also eligible to apply.
Candidates must be in possession of valid Engineering degree certificate /Provisional degree certificate/Marks Sheet with minimum 50% marks in the final year of Engineering at the time of interview. However, candidates should have secured at least 50% marks in the English language at 10th or 12th class.
- Age Limit:
Maximum 28 years as on 1st March 2018 (Date of commencement of training). Candidates belonging to UR/OBC category must be born on or after 01.03.1990. Age relaxations of 5 years applicable to SC/ST candidates as per existing Govt. directives. Candidate belonging to SC/ST category must be born on or after 01.03.1985. Age relaxation of two years for women candidates applicable.
- Course Fees:
The fees for training are Rs. 4, 50,000 (Rs. Four lakhs fifty Thousand only) for both male and female candidates. The candidate will pay fees to the Maritime Training Institute (MTI), Powai. Fees once paid are not refundable at any stage either in full or part. Consolidated stipend of Rs. 15000/- per month will be paid to candidates for structured shipboard training. No stipend will be paid to candidates during shore-based training.
- Medical Standard:
Candidate must have good health and be fit for sea service as per existing MS Medical rules 2000/MLC 2006 applicable to seafarers.
Note: Medical fitness check will be done through SCI empanelled DG approved Doctors and No waiver will be given for the above standard. Candidates not meeting the above standard should not apply. Medical examination fees shall be borne by the candidates.
- Selection Criteria:
Eligible candidates will be required to appear in the All India online test at their own expenses and only candidates qualifying in the online test will be called for Personal Interview in the ratio of 1:3. (3 candidates called against 1 vacancy) keeping the provision of reservation for SC/ST/OBC. The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. reserves the right to shortlist the candidates for online test also.
- About the examination:
The on-line examination shall be of two (02) hours duration, which will be in the form of multiple-choice questions (MCQs). The on-line examination will focus on MCQ’s on Quantitative Aptitude test, Professional Knowledge test, English Language test, and Reasoning Ability test. The questions of the test will be bilingual (English and Hindi). Candidate MUST PASS in each of the objective tests to qualify for personnel interview. The passing Marks in each test will be decided on the basis of the performance of all the competing candidates in each test.

- Job Prospects:
After completion of 8 months’ shore training as GME and 10 months structured shipboard training as TME, candidates can appear for MEO CLASS-IV PART “B” examination after obtaining MEO CLASS-IV PART “A” exemption certificates from D.G. Shipping. On completion of satisfactory performance of training period and reporting to SCI with MEO Class-IV, Part-B certificate of competency (COC), SCI may employ these candidates on ships owned, manned or operated by SCI as per INSA MUI Agreement if vacancies are available. Also, candidates will be required to furnish an indemnity bond to SCI for agreeing to serve on SCI vessels for a period of 5 years after obtaining the MEO CLASS IV PART B certificate of competency. In the event of breach of Indemnity, the candidate shall be liable to pay Rs. 3.00 Lakhs towards the expenses incurred on skill development. After obtaining necessary sea experience and higher certificates of competence the candidate can rise to the rank of Chief Engineer officer on the ship.
