ESE 2019 Prelims: 3 Things to Do One Day Before Exam

Here we go. Are you all set? Are you all having that feeling that you don’t remember anything that you’ve read in the past one year? Calm down, relax and take a deep breath. UPSC is going to conduct IES/ESE 2019 Prelims on the 6th of January. We are with you and here we will talk about the essential things to be done a day before the exam. These things will help you in keeping yourself relaxed and maintaining the right composure for the D-Day. The feeling of anxiety and fear a day before the exam is very natural and there is no point in suppressing it. However, you should not let yourself get trapped in the loop of vicious and futile act of overthinking. Trust your abilities and don’t lose the belief in yourself. Preparation without proper execution simply negates the effort that you have put in your preparation. So, let’s talk about few essential things you need to do to nail this exam by executing the strategy as you had planned before this exam conducted by UPSC.

ESE 2019 Prelims Exam Strategize:

Most students keep the last day for cramming down all the formulae that are there in the entire syllabus of ESE 2019 Prelims. They feel this will them in recalling those formulae the next day. Sounds like a great plan. Yes? No. The smart candidates, the ones whose names will finally be displayed in the merit list, keep the last day to strategize about the next day. You should have a set plan for tackling the question paper. You must have practiced this while giving tests in the Test Series. Now is the time to sit down, calm yourself down and think about that strategy once again. Think about the things that worked for you and the things that didn’t. Make a robust plan and prepare your brain for the same. Your brain needs a certain amount of tranquility to get prepared for the final battle. So just rest and keep rehearsing for the exam in your brain.

Procure the Essentials:

Make sure you have all the essentials with you a day before the exam. Get the print out of your admit card on a day before the exam. Most preferably, do it the morning itself as the outlets for print outs get crowded in the evening as everyone is there to get the print out. Make sure that you have at least two pens with you. Read the admit card carefully to know about the specific details related to the exam like the time of reporting and the colour or type of the pen required. It is always advisable to visit your exam centre beforehand so that you will know exactly how much time it will take to reach that place. These are very small and specific details and by paying attention to them, you can avoid the unnecessary panic on the day of the exam. Here is the list of essentials:

  • Admit Card
  • Pens (Right Colour and Type; always keep one or two extra pens)
  • Watch (Analogue; digital watches are not allowed)

Your Body Needs Attention Too:

In the above two points we talked about the ways to keep the mind calm and to maintain composure on the day of the exam. However, we need to keep our bodies in a sound condition to be able to give our best performance on the next day. You can’t walk in the exam room with a high fever or an upset stomach and just give your best shot. The night before the exam and the morning on the day of the exam are the two crucial periods where you have to take special care of yourself to be in the best frame of mind. Make sure you eat healthy and nutritious food in your dinner and in the morning breakfast. It is not advisable to sit for long hours in the evening before the exam day. Go for walks and relax yourself. Go to bed early in the night so that you can have ample amount of sleep before the exam. Sacrificing sleep a day before the exam to read something new or revising things that you have already revised a lot of times, is a very bad idea. Take proper care of yourself and make sure that you go fresh and healthy into the exam room.

Keeping yourself calm and the belief in yourself intact is the name of the game. You are well prepared for the exam and let no one tell you otherwise. You have given this one year for preparing for this one day and this is what it has come down to. The one who can keep himself focused and execute the strategy in the exam hall efficiently is the one who is going to win the game. We believe that if you have given your time to read this article, then you are one of them. You are going in the right direction and we are always there to guide you. Just do the things we talked about in this article and rest assured that you will be all set to tackle this exam with all your potential. These small tips and tricks will give you a certain edge over your competitors. Because a war is won through a lot of small battles before the actual war is fought.

All The Best for The Exam!

How to calculate without calculator especially finding sine n cosine angel

    • Neeraj Kumar Ravi

      Dear Hemant,

Thanks for writing to us. The question paper set by UPSC for ESE Prelims is such that you don’t need extensive use of calculator. However, there are few questions, 2-3 out of the 150 questions asked in the Technical Paper, do require certain amount of calculations.
These questions can be easily tackled if you have done ample amount of practice in solving such type of questions and that too without using calculators. Certain tricks like option elimination and shortcuts can easily solve this problem.
