(i) The posting of Executive Trainees shall be at CSL, Kochi/CMSRU, Mumbai/CKSRU, Kolkata/ CANSRU, A&N Islands.
(ii) CSL reserves the right to modify the number of vacancies, not fill the vacancies, or cancel the recruitment process entirely, based on its organizational requirements.
(iii) PwBD candidates falling under the specified categories of disabilities are eligible to apply for the posts listed below.
(iv) Considering the hazardous nature of operations at CSL, deploying PwBD candidates outside the “Identified Benchmark Disabilities” listed above may pose significant risks to their safety. Hence, such categories have not been included.
(v) PwBD candidates with the specified disabilities must be capable of efficiently performing the duties and tasks assigned to them by CSL.
Compensation and Benefits, Place of posting
(i) Executive Trainees will undergo a one-year training period with a consolidated monthly stipend of ₹50,000. Trainees required to work extra hours on holidays will receive an additional stipend of up to ₹3,000 per month.
(ii) Upon successful completion of training, trainees will be appointed as Assistant Managers in E-1 Grade with a pay scale of ₹40,000–3%–₹1,40,000, starting at ₹40,000. They will also be eligible for benefits like IDA, HRA (18%), Perks (up to 35%), and other allowances, including NPS, Provident Fund, Medical Insurance, and Performance Payment, as per company rules

*The Annual CTC is 14 lakhs approximately.
(iii) The posting will be at CSL or its project sites, with the possibility of transfer across CSL units as per project requirements. The role entails serving in any department, onboard ships, or at work sites/projects in India or abroad.
Age
(i) The upper age limit prescribed for all the posts shall be 27 years as on 06 January 2025, i.e. applicants should be born on or after 07 January 1998.
(ii) The upper age limit is relaxable by 3 years for OBC (Non Creamy Layer) candidates and 5 years for SC/ST candidates only for consideration to the posts reserved for the respective categories. For the posts of Executive Trainee (Information Technology/Human Resource/Finance), age relaxation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) shall be as per Government of India guidelines.
Method of Selection
The selection process comprises of two phases:
(i) Phase-I – Objective Type Online Test (60 marks) The Online Test shall be of 60 Minutes duration comprising of 60 Multiple Choice Questions in the areas of General Awareness (5 Marks), English Language (5 marks), Numerical Ability (5 marks), Reasoning Ability (5 marks) and Subject Based (40 marks). Each question carries one mark and there will be no negative marks.
(ii) Phase-II – Group Discussion (GD), Writing Skills and Personal Interview (40 marks)
(iii) Marks are assigned to the following parameters for preparing the final rank list for selection:
(a) Objective Type Online Test : 60 marks
(b) Group Discussion (GD) : 10 marks
(c) Writing Skills : 10 marks
(d) Personal Interview : 20 marks
Total : 100 marks
(iv)The Phase-I online test will be conducted at various centers across Kerala, based on the number of applications. Applicants can select their preferred test center in Kerala while applying online. Phase-II will take place at CSL, Kochi.
(v) The mark list for each post will be based on the scores obtained in the Phase-I Objective type online test. The minimum pass marks for each test are as follows:
- Unreserved & EWS Candidates: 50% of total marks per test.
- OBC Candidates: 45% of total marks per test (only for OBC-reserved vacancies).
- SC/ST Candidates: 40% of total marks per test (only for SC/ST-reserved vacancies).
- PwBD Candidates (for Executive Trainee posts in IT, HR & Finance): 40% of total marks per test.
(vi) Candidates who score minimum pass marks and above shall be short listed for certificate verification. For each post, CSL shall call sufficient number of candidates for verification of certificates so as to get candidates in the minimum ratio of 6 candidates against one post in the order of merit/reservation.
(vii) Only those candidates who successfully complete the certificate verification shall be allowed to attend the Phase II (Group Discussion, Writing Skills and Personal Interview).
(viii) Further to the Certificate verification, the Phase II shall be conducted with the eligible candidates even if it is less than 1:6 ratio as decided by CSL.
(ix)Rank lists of qualified candidates will be prepared based on the total marks secured in Phase I and Phase II. In case of a tie, the marks in the discipline section of the Objective test will determine the ranking. If the tie persists, seniority in age will be considered.
Conditions
Reservation:
(i) Government of India Directives on reservation shall apply.
(ii) Applicants belonging to SC or ST or OBC (Non Creamy Layer), should produce a valid recent community certificate issued by the Revenue Authority not below the rank of the Thahsildar, failing which their candidature will not be considered against the reserved posts, and for other concessions/relaxations applicable to the categories.
Qualification
(i) The minimum qualification stipulated for the posts must be from a University/ Institute/Examination Board recognized by AICTE/ appropriate statutory authority/State/Central Government.
(ii) The equivalent qualifications for the following Engineering disciplines prescribed at clause A are as given under. No claim of possession of any other Engineering qualification as equivalent to the notified disciplines shall be entertained.
(iii) Applicants who possess such equivalent qualifications may apply for the respective post, and shall attend the online test being conducted in the notified discipline, against which they had submitted their application online.
(iv) Applicants must enter the exact percentage of marks scored in the qualifying exam while applying online. If the University/Institute provides a conversion formula for grade points (e.g., CGPA/OGPA/CPI) to percentage, it must be used. Alternatively, candidates can submit a percentage conversion certificate. Where no conversion criteria exist, grade points will be multiplied by 10 to determine the percentage.
(v) Final-year students or those awaiting results may apply by providing aggregate marks from previous semesters. Shortlisted candidates must submit proof of completing the degree with the required percentage at certificate verification. No extension will be granted for this. Dates for certificate verification, Group Discussion, Writing Skills, and Personal Interview will be announced on the CSL website.
Service Agreement:
The selected candidates are required to execute a Service Agreement to serve CSL at least for a period of five years after successful completion of the training and to pay an amount of ₹5 Lakhs (Rupees Five lakhs) to CSL for violation of the agreement as liquidated damages. During the period of training and during the period of service agreement, application for outside employment shall not be forwarded. No Objection Certificate for outside employment also will not be issued.
Documents to be uploaded Online:
(i) Applicants must ensure all required documents, including proof of age, qualifications, caste, disability, a recent passport-size photo, and signature, are ready for upload before starting the online application. Failure to upload the necessary certificates/mark sheets as per the guidelines will result in disqualification.
(ii) Applicants employed in Government services or Government-owned organizations must apply online directly to CSL and upload a declaration (Annexure-I) confirming they have informed their employer. Selected candidates must join on the specified date after obtaining a release from their employer.
Application fee:
- An application fee of ₹1000 (non-refundable, plus bank charges) must be paid using online payment options such as Debit Card, Credit Card, Internet Banking, Wallets, or UPI via the online application portal from 06 December 2024 to 06 January 2025.
- No other modes of payment will be accepted.
- SC/ST applicants are exempted from the application fee.
- For Executive Trainee (Information Technology/Human Resource/Finance) posts, PwBD applicants are also exempted from paying the application fee.
How to Apply:
- Applicants should visit the website cochinshipyard.in (Career page CSL, Kochi) and follow the link for online application. The application process includes two phases: Registration and Submission. Only one application should be submitted, as submissions are final.
- Applicants must ensure all details are correctly filled in before submission. Once submitted, no changes can be made. Providing incorrect or irrelevant information may lead to the rejection of the application.
- After applying online, applicants should save a soft copy/printout of the application with the unique registration number for future reference. This number will be generated only after successful submission and should be quoted for any correspondence with CSL.

1. Eligibility Requirements
- Candidates are advised to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria as per the vacancy notification before submitting their applications.
2. Documentary Evidence
- CSL reserves the right to request additional documentary evidence for educational qualifications or other eligibility requirements. Responses to such queries must be made via email at [email protected]. CSL is not responsible for delays or non-receipt of emails within the specified time. Replies received after the deadline will not be considered, and no further correspondence will be entertained.
3. Certificate Verification
- Original certificates of shortlisted candidates will be verified at the time of joining or at another stage as decided by CSL. The candidature is provisional and subject to the verification of original documents. If any discrepancies are found in age, qualification, experience, caste, disability, medical fitness, or false information, the candidature/appointment will be canceled/rejected.
4. Biometric/Photograph Verification
- Biometric data and photographs of candidates will be captured during the online examination for verification at the time of certificate verification/interview.
5. Travel Allowance
- No travel allowance will be provided for attending the Objective type test. However, SC/ST/PwBD candidates will be reimbursed the to-and-fro third AC rail fare for certificate verification, as per company rules, upon producing proof. Travel reimbursement claims must include the front page of the bank passbook with account details and will be processed via NEFT.
6. Verification of Character and Caste Certificates
- Appointment is subject to verification of character, antecedents, and caste certificates (if applicable).
7. Medical Examination
- Shortlisted candidates will undergo a medical examination at hospitals prescribed by CSL.
8. Document Preservation
- All documents related to the selection process will be preserved for two years from the date of result publication.
