The National Informatics Centre (NIC) was established in 1976. Since then, it has played a key role in building and improving e-Government and e-Governance systems across India, even at the grassroots level. It has also helped promote digital opportunities for sustainable development.
NIC has supported various government ministries and departments at the central, state, district, and block levels. Its work has helped improve public services, increase transparency, and support better planning at all levels of government. This has led to improved efficiency and stronger accountability to the people of India.
Through its “Informatics-led Development” program, NIC has driven the use of technology (ICT) in social and public administration. This has helped the government work more effectively and deliver better services to citizens.

The National Informatics Centre (NIC) invites applications from eligible and qualified candidates for the post of Scientist-B. This is a Group-A (Gazetted) position in the Science & Technology category, offered at Level 10 of the 7th CPC pay scale (₹56,100 – ₹1,77,500).
The recruitment will be conducted through direct selection. Candidates will be shortlisted for Personal Interaction/Interview based on their valid Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) scores for the years 2024, 2025, or 2026.

Candidates who are currently working in Government organizations may get an age relaxation of up to 5 years. This applies if they are working in similar or related roles where their experience can help them perform better in the advertised position.
The upper age limit for candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC (NCL), PwBD, and other special categories will be relaxed as per the rules and guidelines issued by the Central Government from time to time.
For SC, ST, and OBC (NCL) candidates, age relaxation is applicable only for posts reserved for their category. However, for PwBD candidates, age relaxation will be given whether the post is reserved or not, as long as the post is considered suitable for them.
NOTE (Age calculation) : The crucial date for determining the age limit shall be 31/03/2026.
HOW TO APPLY
Before applying, candidates are advised to carefully read this advertisement in detail to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria for the post.
Admission at all stages of the recruitment process will be purely provisional and subject to fulfilling the required eligibility conditions.

Candidates are required to have valid E-mail Id and active Mobile Number. The procedure/steps for filling up of applications online is briefed as under.
Note: Candidates are advised to fill up the online application form very carefully, as no change in name / category / address / mobile number / email ID etc. will be permissible after submitting the application.
Your application will be considered complete only after all four steps (Step 1, Step 2, Step 3, if applicable, and Step 4) are successfully completed. If you are unable to pay the fee before the deadline or leave the form incomplete, your application will be rejected. No queries or complaints will be accepted in such cases.
You can check your application details by using the “Already Registered Candidate” option on the homepage. Just log in with your Application Number and Password. Make sure that all the steps are fully completed so that you can download the Confirmation Page. If any step is left incomplete, your application will be rejected and no further communication will be entertained.
Important: Aadhaar based authentication shall be used at every stage of the recruitment process.

Candidates applying for more than one discipline will have to pay ₹800 for each discipline separately. Any bank charges for the payment will also be borne by the candidate. The application fee must be paid through online mode only. Payment through cash, demand draft, pay order, cheque, or challan will not be accepted.
NIC Jobs Selection Process
- Only those candidates will be considered who meet the eligibility criteria and have applied on the NIC portal.
- Candidates will be shortlisted for the interview based on their Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score in a 1:5 ratio, discipline-wise and category-wise.
- If more than one candidate has the same GATE score, all of them will be shortlisted, even if the ratio exceeds.
- Equal weightage will be given to GATE scores of 2024, 2025, and 2026.
- Shortlisted candidates can download their call letters from the official website and should check it regularly for updates.
- Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee that a candidate will be called for the interview.
- Document verification will be done before the interview, and candidates must bring original documents.
- Only candidates who clear document verification will be allowed to appear for the interview.

- Academic performance (0.05 mark for each percentage in the degree of Essential qualification) In case of CGPA, if the university does not provide a formula, the candidate must provide a certificate from the Registrar to that effect
- Candidates must score at least 50% (Unreserved) or 40% (EWS/OBC/SC/ST/PwBD) in the interview to qualify.
- Final selection will be based on a combined score, with 60% weightage for the GATE score and 40% for the interview, prepared category-wise and discipline-wise.

Note: The candidate must submit their best GATE score from any one of the eligible years, in the discipline applied (as specified in Section 3.1).
- Resolution of Tie Cases:
If two or more candidates have the same total marks (combined GATE score and interview marks), their rank in the merit list will be decided in the following order:
- First, the candidate with a higher Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score will be ranked higher.
- Second, if the GATE scores are also equal, then the candidate with higher marks in the Technical (Academic) section of the interview will be ranked higher.
- Third, if the tie still continues, then the candidate who is older in age will be given a higher rank.
Verification of Documents:
Document verification will be done before the interview. Candidates will be allowed to attend the interview only after showing their original documents.
If there is any doubt about the candidate’s identity, or if they fail to produce the required documents, or if there is any mismatch in the information, their application will be rejected. No extra time will be given to submit the documents later.
The following original documents will be checked at the time of the interview. If a candidate does not bring them, they will not be allowed to appear for the interview.
- Date of Birth proof: Birth certificate issued by Municipality / Matriculation Examination Certificate indicating Date of Birth
- Matriculation and Senior Secondary Examination Certificate / Marksheet.
- GATE Score card for the year 2024 / 2025 / 2026 as the case may be.
- Essential Qualification Certificate:
- Mark sheets indicating date of declaration of result
- Final Degree Certificate
- Provisional passing Certificate (in case final degree certificate is not issued).
- Certificate of conversion of CGPA from the Registrar of the University (if applicable)
- No Objection Certificate from the organization (applicable for applicants working in Central/State Government/PSUs/Aided Institutions/Autonomous Bodies)
- Applicants are required to furnish a Gazette Notification in respect of change of name, if applicable.
- Certificate of being Ex-Serviceman (if applicable in the prescribed format at Annexure IX).
- Age relaxation certificate for in-service candidates (if applicable in the prescribed format at Annexure VIII). 7.9 Caste/Category Certificates:
- Aadhaar Card for aadhaar based authentication.
- Any other Photo ID proof such as, PAN card / Driving License / EPIC ID / any other Government issued ID.

The OBC candidates applying for the post must produce a valid OBC (NCL) Certificate issued during the Financial Year 2025-26 (i.e. issued on or after 01.04.2025) in the format for appointment to posts under the Government of India, issued by the Competent Authority, in support of their belonging to OBC Community in the Central list of OBC and to prove that they do not belong to “Creamy Layer” of the OBCs Candidates are advised to apply and obtain the aforesaid OBC (NCL) Certificate issued during financial year 2025-26 (i.e. issued on or after 01.04.2025) well in time to be eligible for reservation benefit under this advertisement. The candidates who fail to produce the prescribed OBC (NCL) certificate at the time of document Verification, will not be considered under respective category. Certificate for OBC must clearly indicate that the candidate does not belong to the persons/sections (Creamy Layer) mentioned in Column 3 of Schedule to the Government of India, Department of Personnel & Training O.M No 36012/22/93-Estt(SCT) dated 8/9/93 as amended from time to time. OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate issued for appointment to posts under the State Government (i.e., belonging to state list of OBC) OR for admission to educational purposes will not be considered. |

The EWS candidates applying for the post must produce a valid EWS Certificate issued for the Financial Year 2024-25 (i.e. valid for the year 2025-26) in the format for appointment to posts under the Government of India, issued by the Competent Authority, in support of their belonging to EWS Category. The income and Asset Certificate issued by any one of the following authorities in the prescribed format shall only be accepted as proof of candidate’s claim as belonging to EWS. (i) District Magistrate / Additional District Magistrate / Collector / Deputy Commissioner / Additional Deputy Commissioner/1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate/Sub-Divisional Magistrate/Taluka Magistrate/Executive Magistrate/Extra Assistant Commissioner. (ii) Chief Presidency Magistrate/Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate/ Presidency Magistrate. (iii) Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar. (iv) Sub-Divisional Officer of the area where the candidate and /or his/her family normally resides |
Personal Interaction / Interview
The date and venue of the interview for shortlisted candidates will be mentioned in the call letter, which can be downloaded from the NIC website.
The interview will be conducted in Delhi or at any other location or mode as decided by the competent authority.
Note: No request for change in date or venue will be accepted. Also, no TA/DA will be provided for attending the interview.
Action Against Misconduct
Candidates are advised to provide correct and complete information in their application. They should not submit any false, altered, or fake details, and should not hide any important information.
If a candidate is found guilty of any misconduct at any stage of the recruitment process, they may face strict action, including legal action.
- Impersonation or asking someone else to appear on your behalf
- Using unfair or illegal means during the selection process
- Trying to influence the selection process in any way
- Submitting fake documents or false information
- Hiding important details or facts
- Providing incorrect category information (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwBD)
If any such case is found, the application will be rejected at any stage. If already selected, the candidate may be removed from service. Legal action may also be taken, and the candidate can be banned from future NIC recruitments.
Important Information for NIC
Citizenship:
A candidate must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of settling permanently. Candidates of Indian origin who have migrated from countries like Pakistan, Myanmar (Burma), Sri Lanka, and certain East African countries with the intention of permanent settlement in India are also eligible. However, candidates from these categories must have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.
Crucial Date for Age, Qualification, and Experience:
The cut-off date for calculating age and meeting all eligibility conditions (qualification, category, age relaxation, etc.) is 31/03/2026. This date will not change, even if the application deadline is extended.
Correspondence:
All communication related to the recruitment process by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) will be sent through email or SMS to the registered email ID and mobile number. Candidates must provide a valid and active email ID and mobile number and should regularly check them for updates, including joining or appointment information.
By registering on the portal, candidates agree to receive official SMS and email communications from NIC.
After the result is declared, candidates should regularly visit the official website for further updates.

Application Fee Payment & Eligibility for NIC
The National Informatics Centre (NIC) will not be responsible for any failed or incomplete online payment transactions. It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure that the application fee is paid successfully. Once paid, the fee will not be refunded.
Candidates are advised to check their eligibility carefully before making the payment. Only the qualifications mentioned for the post will be considered while deciding eligibility.
Important Instructions:
Applications that do not meet the requirements mentioned in the advertisement may be rejected.
- Candidates must bring their downloaded Interview Call Letter, original documents (as mentioned), and one recent passport-size colour photograph at the time of the interview. Without these, they will not be allowed to appear for the interview.
- Final selection will be based on eligibility criteria, Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score, and performance in the interview.
- If at any stage it is found that the candidate has provided incorrect information or submitted fake documents, their application will be cancelled. If already appointed, their service will be terminated.
- Candidates should upload only relevant documents. Uploading incorrect or unnecessary documents may lead to rejection of the application. Also, not submitting the required documents as per the checklist can result in cancellation.
- Candidates must complete all eligibility requirements before the cut-off date. Qualifications from Open or Distance Learning will be accepted only if approved by the concerned authorities.
- Before submitting the online application form, candidates should carefully check all details. Incomplete or incorrect forms will be rejected.
- After submission, candidates should download the Confirmation Page and keep the Application Number safe for future communication with the National Informatics Centre (NIC).
- Candidates working in Government departments, PSUs, or autonomous bodies must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC). It should also confirm that no disciplinary or vigilance case is pending. Failure to provide required details may lead to cancellation of candidature.
- No changes in address, email ID, mobile number, or any other details will be allowed after submission. The information provided in the application form will be treated as final.
- Any legal dispute will fall under the jurisdiction of Delhi courts. No queries related to eligibility or posting location will be entertained.
- The job may require posting anywhere in India. The decision of NIC in all recruitment matters will be final.
- NIC reserves the right to modify or cancel the recruitment process at any time without prior notice. No appeal will be accepted in such cases.
