Engineer’s Day is one of the celebrated days in the field of engineering across the country to appreciate the contribution of the Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya as a promising and ambitious engineer who brought the concept of achieving the unthinkable. The renowned engineer was born on 15th September 1861. In the year 1968, the Government of India declared his birthday as Engineers Day to recognize his birth anniversary. Therefore, Happy Engineering Day is celebrated on the 15th of September, every year. Along with different parts of India, Engineers Day is also celebrated in countries such as Sri Lanka and Tanzania where the folks are appreciated greatly.

- Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya is the first engineer in India, especially in the field of civil engineering.
- He completed his initial phase of education in the city of Bengaluru (earlier known as Bangalore). Later, he went on to complete B.Sc from the prestigious University of Madras. After this, Sir Visvesvaraya completed his Diploma in Civil Engineering (DCE) from the University of Bombay through the College of Engineering, Pune.
- After completing his respective education, the recognized civil engineer secured the prestigious job opportunity as an Assistant Engineer from the Government of Bombay.
- He started as an Assistant Engineer and then evolved into a Superintending Engineer and later as a Consulting Engineer. Finally, he reached the prestigious position of Diwan of Mysore associated with the Public Works Department and Railway.
- The British authorities gave him a popular name during their tenure in India – Sir MV.
- Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya received the recognition of Bharat Ratna in the year 1955. This is one of his most celebrated awards and honors that has helped him create a positive impact the society.
- He gained popularity with his excellent work in building the flood protection system in Hyderabad between 1906 and 1907.
- The Bharat Ratna Awardee was the 19th Diwan of Mysore. His tenure was from 1912 and 1918. During this tenure, he turned the Mysore State into a modern one. Therefore, he received the title of ‘Father of Modern Mysore State’.
- Sir M. Visvesvaraya wrote the book ‘Planned Economy for India’ along with several other books in his lifetime. This book became one of the best contributors in the field of economic development.
- Visvesvaraya Technological University located in Belagavi is named after him. Apart from this, institutions such as Visvesvaraya School of Engineering, Bangalore, and Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology also received their respective names after this successful civil engineer.
