ESE 2026 Prelims: 3 Things to Do One Day Before Exam

The wait is over; the D-day is here. If you’re feeling restless, anxious, or suddenly blank despite months of ESE preparation, take a pause. You’re not alone. Almost every serious aspirant feels this way before the ESE 2026 exam. The mind starts racing, doubts creep in, and it feels like everything studied over the year is slipping away. UPSC is set to conduct the IES/ESE 2026 Prelims on 8th February 2026. We’re right here with you. Let’s talk about the most important things to do one day before the exam, things that will help you stay calm, confident, and composed on the big day. Feeling anxious or scared a day before the exam is completely normal. There’s no need to fight it.

What matters is that you don’t fall into the trap of overthinking. Trust yourself. Believe in the hard work you’ve put in. Remember, preparation without the right execution can cancel out all your effort. So now is the time to focus on executing your strategy exactly the way you planned. So, let’s talk about a few essential things you need to do to before the ESE exam by executing the strategy as you had planned before this exam.

ESE 2026 Prelims Exam Strategize:

Most aspirants keep the last day for cramming down all the formulae that arle in the entire syllabus of ESE 2026 Prelims. They feel this will help them recall those formulae the next day. Sounds like a great plan. Yes? No. The smart candidates, the ones whose names will finally be displayed in the merit list, keep the last day to strategize about the next day. You should have a set plan for tackling the question paper. You must have practiced this while giving tests in the Test Series. Now is the time to sit down, calm yourself down, and think about that strategy once again. Think about the things that worked for you and the things that didn’t. Make a robust plan and prepare your brain for the same. Your brain needs peace and clarity to perform at its best on exam day. Avoid stress and overthinking. Take proper rest and stay calm. Lightly revise important concepts in your mind and trust your preparation. A relaxed mind will help you think clearly and perform confidently in the exam.

Procure the Essentials:

Make sure you have all the essentials with you a day before the exam. Get the printout of your admit card on the day before the exam. Most preferably, do it the morning itself as the outlets for print outs get crowded in the evening as everyone is there to get the print out. Make sure that you have at least two pens with you. Read the admit card carefully to know about the specific details related to the exam like the time of reporting and the colour or type of the pen required. It is always advisable to visit your exam centre beforehand so that you will know exactly how much time it will take to reach that place. These are very small and specific details, and by paying attention to them, you can avoid unnecessary panic on the day of the exam. Here is the list of essentials:

  • Admit Card
  • Pens (Right Colour and Type; always keep one or two extra pens)
  • Watch (Analogue; digital watches are not allowed)

Your Body Needs Attention Too:

In the above two points, we talked about the ways to keep the mind calm and to maintain composure on the day of the exam. However, we need to keep our bodies in a sound condition to be able to give our best performance the next day. You can’t walk in the exam room with a high fever or an upset stomach and just give your best shot. The night before the exam and the morning on the day of the exam are the two crucial periods where you have to take special care of yourself to be in the best frame of mind. Make sure you eat healthy and nutritious food for dinner and for breakfast. It is not advisable to sit for long hours in the evening before the exam day. Go for walks and relax. Go to bed early in the night so that you can have an ample amount of sleep before the exam. Sacrificing sleep a day before the exam to read something new or revising things that you have already revised a lot of times is a very bad idea. Take proper care of yourself and make sure that you go fresh and healthy into the exam room.

Staying calm and maintaining your confidence is key. You are well prepared for the exam, so don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You’ve dedicated a year to getting ready for this day, and now it has arrived. The person who can stay focused and execute their strategy effectively in the exam hall is the one who will succeed. We believe that if you’ve taken the time to read this article, you’re on the right track. We’re here to guide you every step of the way. Just follow the advice in this article, and you’ll be ready to perform at your best. These small tips and tricks will give you an advantage over your competitors because a battle is won through many small victories before the big fight.

As you step into the final stretch, remember that this exam is not just a test of knowledge, but a test of calmness, clarity, and confidence. Trust the journey you’ve been on and the effort you’ve invested over the past year. Stay focused, stay composed, and give your best with a positive mind-set. Walk into the exam hall with belief in yourself, you’ve earned it. Stay calm, stay confident, and trust your preparation. Give your best and let your hard work speak for itself.

  10. How to calculate without calculator especially finding sine n cosine angel

    1. Dear Hemant,

Thanks for writing to us. The question paper set by UPSC for ESE Prelims is such that you don’t need extensive use of calculator. However, there are few questions, 2-3 out of the 150 questions asked in the Technical Paper, do require certain amount of calculations.
These questions can be easily tackled if you have done ample amount of practice in solving such type of questions and that too without using calculators. Certain tricks like option elimination and shortcuts can easily solve this problem.
