GAIL: Gas Authority of India Limited
Gas Authority of India Limited, popularly known as GAIL, is a Maharatna PSU and India’s flagship natural gas company that integrates all aspects of India’s natural gas value chain (including exploration & production, processing, transmission, distribution, and marketing) and its related services
GAIL was established in the year 1984 by the Government of India with the aim of creating gas sector infrastructure for sustained development of natural gas country’s sector. Currently, Shri Sandeep Kumar Gupta is the Chairman and Managing Director of GAIL (India).
In a rapidly changing world, GAIL is continuously working toward a new era of clean fuel industrialization by creating a quadrilateral of green energy corridors that connect major consumption centers in India with major gas fields, LNG terminals, and other cross-border gas sourcing points. In order to become a formidable player in the international market, GAIL is also expanding its business overseas.
Over the years, with its large network of trunk pipelines, GAIL (India) Limited has shown organic growth in gas transmission. Leveraging its core competencies, GAIL played a key role as a gas market developer in India for decades, catering to major industrial sectors such as power, fertilizers, and city gas distribution.
From the 2,300 km Hazira–Vijaipur–Jagdishpur cross-country pipeline, with a capacity to handle 33.4 MMSCMD of gas, GAIL owns the country’s largest pipeline network. Today, the company owns and operates a cross-country natural gas pipeline over 11,000 km long in India, with a presence in 22 states. It also owns and operates more than 2,000 km of LPG pipelines and takes pride in operating one of the world’s longest exclusive LPG pipelines, running from Jamnagar in Gujarat to Loni in Uttar Pradesh.
