Indian Coast Guard Recruitment 2024 for Group ‘A’, Ministry of Defence

The Indian Coast Guard, an Armed Force of the Union, invites young and dynamic Indian male candidates to embark on an exciting career as Assistant Commandants (Group ‘A’ Gazetted Officers) across various branches. Eligibility Criteria:

Indian citizens having following minimum qualifications are eligible to apply:-

(ii) Should have studied Mathematics and Physics up to Class XII or equivalent. Candidates with a diploma in Physics and Mathematics are also eligible.

21-25 years as on   01 Jul 2025 i.e. born between 01 Jul 2000 & 30 Jun 2004 (Both dates inclusive).

(05 Years relaxation for personnel serving in

(i) Engineering degree in Naval Architecture, Mechanical, Marine, Automotive, Mechatronics, Industrial & Production, Metallurgy, Design, Aeronautical, or Aerospace, or equivalent (AMIE recognized).

(ii) Engineering degree in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunication, Instrumentation, Electronics & Communication, Power Engineering, or Power Electronics, or equivalent (AMIE recognized).

(iii) Mathematics and Physics up to Class XII or equivalent. Candidates with a diploma in Physics and Mathematics are also eligible.

Selection Procedure for Assistant Commandants:

  • All India Merit-Based Selection: Based on performance across five stages (I-V) and availability of vacancies.
  • Compulsory Biometric, Photo Identification, and Document Verification at various stages.

Stage I: Coast Guard Common Admission Test (CGCAT):

  • Tie-Breaking: If multiple candidates have the same last shortlisted marks, all candidates with those marks will move to Stage II.
  • Normalization of Marks to adjust for variations across different shifts in an objective manner through a statistical method

Stage II: Preliminary Selection Board (PSB):

  • Location: Noida, Mumbai/Goa, Chennai, Kolkata, Shillong, Gandhinagar.
  • Tests: Computerized Cognitive Battery Test (CCBT) and Picture Perception & Discussion Test (PP&DT).
  • Verification: Biometric and document verification. Mismatch results in cancellation.

Stage III: Final Selection Board (FSB):

  • Location: Coast Guard Selection Board (CGSB) at Noida.
  • Tests: Psychological Test, Group Task, and Personality Test.
  • Document Verification: Original documents are required at final selection.

Stage IV: Medical Examination:

  • Location: Base Hospital, New Delhi.
  • Unfit Candidates: Can appeal for a review medical at designated service hospitals within 21 days.

Stage V: Induction:

  • Training: Candidates who pass Stage IV and are in the merit list will report to the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, for the Naval Orientation Course (NOC).
  • Merit List: Based on combined marks of Stage I and Stage III.
  • Final Induction: Must be completed by 31st December 2025.

Note: The tentative last date for induction at INA is 27th December 2025. The exact date will be provided in the appointment letter. No induction will occur after 31st December 2025 under any circumstances.

How to apply?

Applications will be accepted online from 05 Dec 2024 (1100 Hrs) to 24 Dec 2024 (1730 Hrs) at https://joinindiancoastguard.cdac.in. Ensure email and mobile number validity until 31 Dec 2025.

Examination Fee:

  • All candidates (except SC/ST) must pay a fee of ₹ 300/- online via net banking, Visa/Master/Maestro/RuPay cards, UPI, etc.
  • Admit card will be issued only after successful fee payment or for candidates entitled to a fee waiver.

Exemption of Examination Fee:

  • SC/ST candidates are exempt from the fee.
  • Candidates must provide valid SC/ST certificates; false certificates will lead to disqualification.

Unsuccessful Payment:

  • If payment is deducted but not credited, it will be considered unsuccessful. The application will only be processed after successful payment.
  • ICG is not responsible for unsuccessful payments; candidates must contact their banks for refunds.

Refund of Multiple Payments:

  • Excess payment due to multiple transactions will be refunded after registration closure.
  • No refund will be made for applications not considered for recruitment.

No Refund Policy:

  • Examination fee is non-refundable under any circumstances and cannot be transferred to future exams.

Travel Expenses:

  • Stage-I (CGCAT): SC/ST candidates not employed by the government will be reimbursed 2nd class train/bus fare (shortest route) if home is >30 km from the exam center. SC/ST candidates are to download the travel form from ICG website and submit the same to Indian Coast Guard.
  • Stage-II (PSB)/ Stage-III (FSB): SC/ST candidates will be reimbursed 2nd class train/bus fare (PSB/FSB) on production of original tickets. First-time FSB (Stage-III) candidates will get AC III/Chair Car or bus fare.
  • Reimbursement Requirements: Submit 3 sets of copies of admit card, caste certificate, and journey ticket for reimbursement.

Examination City:

  • Candidates must select 5 preferred cities for Stage-I exam. First choice should be within 30 km of current address, or nearest city if none is within 30 km.
  • Failure to comply with the first choice may lead to cancellation of candidature.
  • Indian Coast Guard may allot an examination city different from the preference.

Documents required:

Stage-I (CGCAT) – Candidates must bring a printout of the E-admit card (preferably in color), two passport-sized photos, original photo ID, and for SC/ST candidates, original caste certificate, travel form, and relevant tickets for travel reimbursement.

Stage-II (PSB) and Stage-III (FSB) – Candidates must bring two copies of the online application, E-admit card, recent passport-sized photos, original Class X, XII certificates, degree certificates, proof of identity (e.g., Aadhaar, passport), character certificate, domicile certificate (if applicable), NCC certificate (if applicable), category certificates, service certificates, and other necessary documents.

Stage-IV (Medical Examination) – Candidates requires a printout of the E-admit card and original photo ID.

Stage-V (Induction) – Selected candidates must report with their appointment letter, educational certificates, identity documents, SC/ST/OBC certificates (if applicable), risk certificate, marital status certificate, various bonds and declarations, and certificates regarding social media activity, prevention of ragging, and willingness to join the Indian Coast Guard. Failure to submit any of the required documents at each stage will result in the cancellation of the candidature.

Note. Failure to submit above documents during Stage-V will lead to cancellation of candidature.

Merit List:

The recommendation in the FSB does not guarantee final selection. A merit list will be generated for medically fit candidates based on marks obtained and subject to available vacancies. The number of vacancies may vary by branch and will be determined later based on training availability. The selected candidates’ list will be published on the Coast Guard recruitment website in November 2025, and joining letters will be issued thereafter. Training at INA, Ezhimala is scheduled to begin in early January 2026.

Training:

  1. Selected candidates must report to INA Ezhimala for a 44-week Naval Orientation Course, followed by training at Indian Navy and Coast Guard units.
  2. Trainees may be discharged if their performance or conduct is unsatisfactory, or if their application or documents are found to be falsified.
