Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL), an entirely owned Government of Punjab undertaking, is a power transmission utility of the State of Punjab for transmission within the state. The Corporation discharges the functions of State Transmission Utility (STU) and also operates the State Load Despatch Centre (SLDC).
The Organization plays a vital role in the socio-economic growth of the State while fulfilling its duties and responsibilities as a transmission utility. While the Corporation is committed to having an efficient, cost-effective and co-ordinated intra-state transmission system for hassle-free flow of quality and uninterrupted power, it also has a responsibility as a responsible corporate citizen to address the social needs while executing and operating the state transmission system.

PSTCL CAREER:
PSTCL Recruitment* Through GATE:
With respect to the past notifications released by PSTCL, it appoints candidates, from the fields of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology, based on the marks scored by them in GATE examination for the post of On-training Assistant Engineer and Assistant Manager IT.
Once the result is declared for GATE, the shortlisted candidates on the basis of their performance in GATE are shortlisted for Interview. PSTCL produces the final merit list on the basis of the performance in both the GATE examination and the interview.
PSTCL usually hires 100 to 200 candidates through GATE every year. It shall recruit for the following job roles from the respective branches.
Electrical Engineering: Assistant Engineer (AE)
Electrical and Electronics Engineering: Assistant Engineer (AE)
Electronics and Communication Engineering: Assistant Engineer (AE)
Instrumentation and Control Engineering: Assistant Engineer (AE)
Civil Engineering: Assistant Engineer (AE)
Computer Science and Engineering: Assistant Manager (AM)
Information Technology: Assistant Manager (AM)
Assistant Engineer: Candidates selected at this post involve wide-ranging field work, design, infrastructure scrutiny and development of electricity lines and routes. PSTCL prefers candidates with extensive knowledge of practical application of electricity transmission infrastructure projects.
Assistant Manager: this role includes analysing real time information using software and databases through extensive research and recording of daily operations and inventory changes.
PSTCL Recruitment*
PSTCL pays fixed monthly stipend equivalent to lowest pay band to the trainees during the probation period with no Dearness Allowance (DA) and Grade Pay (GP). There is no annual increment during the probation period.
After the end of probation period, following is the salary structure:
Basic Pay: Rs. 16,650-39,100 Grade Pay: Rs. 5800 plus DA and Annual Increment Pension scheme and employer contribution
Cut-off Marks
The candidates need to obtain a minimum specified score in GATE i.e. a score greater than or equal to the qualifying marks set by the authorities in the branch (ME, EE, ECE, IN, CE, CS) papers.
Following is a predictive chart for understanding that where the candidate’s rank should fall in order to get selected in PSTCL:
- GENERAL: AIR <300
- OBC: AIR <500
- SC/ST: AIR <1000
Eligibility
Based on the notification released by PSTCL, the eligibility criteria for PSTCL Assistant Engineer is as given below:
Candidate must have appeared in GATE paper of his/ her respective branch
Regular B. E/ B. Tech/ BSc. with a minimum of 60 percent of total marks or equivalent degree recognized by AICTE.
Final year students are also eligible
Existing Age Limit: 27 to 30 years as on January 1, 2020
Candidates must have studied Punjabi language till Matriculation or its equivalent level.
Reservation of seats under different positions is applicable only to Punjab domicile candidates
To be treated as a Punjab domicile student, the candidate needs to produce a permanent residential certificate of Punjab.
Recruitment Process:
Based on previous selection process for PSTCL Assistant manager the process is as gollows:
GATE 2020 (80% weight): interested and eligible candidates need to appear in GATE 2020 in papers of their streams/branches. Students from Mechanical Engineering paper (ME), Electrical Engineering (EE) paper, Civil Engineer (CE) paper, Computer Science/ IT (CS) papers can apply for this post. Candidates should get a valid score in order to get shortlisted. Candidates need to get a score greater than or equal to the qualifying marks fixed by the GATE authorities to be shortlisted for the next round of recruitment.
Personal Interview (10% weight):
Encompasses questions such as

“Where do you want to take your career in the next 5 years?”
“What are your strengths and weaknesses?”
Candidates also need to do a little research about the status of the company. One should know how it works, its projects and standing in the industry.
