A Government of India controlled Maharatna oil and gas company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) operates two large refineries of the country located in Kochi and Mumbai.The company is India’s 2nd largest downstream oil company and is ranked 342nd on the Fortune list of the world’s biggest corporations as of 2016. BPCL ranked 672 in the Forbes 2018 list.

It currently operates two of India’s largest refineries and has been phenomenal in terms of turnover, profitability, financial reserves and people capital, post-nationalization in 1976.

Department

With BPCL operating two of India’s largest refineries there are various other refineries that Bharat Petroleum operates which are:

  • Mumbai Refinery: Located near Mumbai, Maharashtra. It has a capacity of 13 million metric tonnes per annum.
  • Kochi Refineries: Located near Kochi, Kerala. It has a capacity of 15.5 million metric tonnes per annum.
  • Bina Refinery: Located near Bina, Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh. It has a capacity of 6 million metric tonnes per year. This refinery is operated by Bharat Oman Refineries Limited, a joint venture between Bharat Petroleum and Oman Oil Company.
  • Numaligarh Refinery: Located near Numaligarh, Golaghat district, Assam. It has a capacity of 3 million metric tonnes per year.

Along with this the company business is divided in seven SBUs (Strategic Business Units), like Retail, Lubricants, Aviation, Refinery, Gas, I&C and LPG.

Bharat Petroleum also has various popular Loyalty Program like Petrocard, Smartfleet.

Recruitment

2. Reservoir Engineer 30 years

Graduate Engineering degree in Petroleum/Mechanical Engineering from institution/ college and university / Deemed university duly recognized by AICTE/ UGC.

OR

Bachelor’s or higher engineering degree in petroleum engineering or petroleum technology or applied petroleum engineering from institution /college and university / Deemed university duly recognized by AICTE/ UGC

Professionals with 4 – 11 yrs. of work experience will be considered having relevant experience in upstream oil & gas industry in Drilling Engineering.

OR

Freshers or Professionals with 0 – 7 yrs. of work experience will be considered having relevant experience in upstream oil & gas industry in Reservoir Engineering.

3. Production Engineer 30 years Bachelor’s or higher engineering degree in petroleum engineering or petroleum technology or applied petroleum engineering from institution /college and university / Deemed university duly recognized by AICTE/ UGC. Freshers or Professionals with 0 – 7 yrs. of work experience having relevant experience in upstream oil & gas industry in Production Engineering
4. Facilities Engineer 38 years Bachelor’s or higher engineering degree in Mechanical/ Electrical /Petroleum engineering or petroleum technology from institution /college and university / Deemed university duly recognised  by AICTE/UGC. Professionals with 7 – 15 yrs. of work experience will be considered having relevant experience in upstream oil & gas industry in Facilities engineering.

Selection Procedure

Based on scrutiny of the applications, eligible candidates will be called for personal interview/s.

Candidates short-listed in personal interview/s will be required to clear a pre-employment medical examination.

Candidates would have to qualify through each stage of the selection process successfully before being considered for final selection.

1. Management Trainees

Vacancies for Management Trainees are also released every year by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) for various engineering streams. Applying for BPCL Recruitment through GATE 2019 mandates that the GATE 2019 registration number be provided while filling-in the form.  Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their GATE scores with selection on the basis of their performance in group discussions (GD) and personal interviews (PI). Finally, medical examination of the candidates will be held to see if they are medically fit or not.

5. Age limit

The candidates belonging to the general category should be of maximum 25 years.

OBC (NCL) candidates should be maximum 28 years old.

SC/ST category candidates are required to be maximum 30 years old.

There is an age relaxation of upto 5 years for the candidates domiciled in Jammu & Kashmir between January 1, 1980 and December 31, 1989.

Similarly, ex-servicemen and commissioned officers also enjoy the age relaxation of upto 5 years.

6. Educational Qualifications

The candidates should have completed and qualified their 4-year full time B. Tech./B. E. or equivalent degree from a recognized institute or University.

Final year students will also be eligible to apply. These candidates will have to submit documentary proof of having passed the degree examination with the required marks.

Candidates with integrated courses or courses with 5 years or more duration will not be termed eligible to apply for the position.c

7. Marks

General and OBC (NCL) Category candidates should have secured minimum 60% marks.

The minimum percentage marks to be secured by the candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD candidates is 50%.

8. Medical Qualifications A pre-employment medical examination will be done on the candidates before joining.

Note: Besides the listed shortlisting modes, at the preliminary level, the management may also conduct Psychometric tests and/or any other selection tools/ tests may also be considered.

Emoluments and training:

Probation and Training: Candidates will be selected as “Management Trainee” placed in Job Group “A”. The total probation period for the candidates will be one year. In case of non-satisfactory performance, the probation period will be extended.

Post-Probation: Those candidates who complete their probation period successfully will be placed as an “Executive” in their respective business unit/entity.

Job Posting: According to the company, the candidates will be posted to any of the BPCL offices across the country.

Work Profile: The candidates will be provided their work profile. Posts in Operations, Process, Sales and Engineering at refineries may be provided. Those candidates who are posted in Operations will be required to work in shifts.

 Pay

Basic salary of Rs. 24,900 will be paid to the selected candidates. The pay scale for the candidates will range from Rs. 24,900 to Rs. 50,500 along with Dearness Allowance (DA) based on IDA pattern. Depending on the posted city, the candidates will also be paid house rent assistance.

Cost to Company: Effective from January 1, 2017, Rs. 10.5 lakh per annum is the Cost to Company (CTC). This will include 50% of the basic pay as perks and allowances along with the performance related pay. It is also inclusive of 30% of basic plus DA as superannuation benefits (Provident fund, Gratuity and New Pension Scheme). Other payable requisites include housing/ vehicle loan facility, group savings linked insurance scheme and more.

    If Yes then when?? Before GATE or after GATE?

      Dear Candidate,

      Thanks for writing to us. The notification for the intimation of the recruitment process is released before the exam. The candidate has to fill the form with either the registration number or the roll number of GATE, whichever is available at the time of notification, to be eligible for the shortlisting process after the GATE results are announced.
