Candidates appearing for the GATE 2024 exam must refer to the following instructions specified in the code of conduct associated with this competitive exam.
- Every aspirant appearing for the GATE 2024 exam must carry the GATE 2024 admit card with the original and valid photo and ID. It is important to know that candidates must use the same document at the time of registration while entering the examination hall.
- Candidates will receive a scribble pad at the examination hall itself. The aspirant must write his or her name with the registration number on the scribble pad. One must do this before the candidate starts to use it. Candidates must note that they need to return the first scribble pad before taking the next scribble pad from the exam invigilator. One must return any scribble pad present with them soon after the examination.
- Students appearing for the exam cannot carry mobile phones, watches, or calculators inside the examination hall. It is applicable even if the respective gadgets are in the switch-off mode.
- Apart from this, applicants cannot carry any electronic or communication devices, wallets, papers, loose sheets, pen/pencil box/pouch, and printed or hand-written textual materials inside the examination hall.
- Candidates must keep in mind that there is a strict prohibition of all forms of communication inside the examination hall of the GATE 2024 exam.
- In case the concerned invigilator detects the presence of prohibited acts or items during the examination, it will automatically lead to the respective candidate’s candidature cancellation. It is important to note that the concerned department will not release the results for such candidates.
- Candidates are responsible for the safety of the valuables that they bring to the venue of the examination centre as the respective centre will not take responsibility if any candidate loses his or her valuables from the centre.

- To download the GATE 2024 admit card, the aspirants are requested to click on the direct “GATE 2024 Admit Card/Hall Ticket” link that is available on IISC Banglaore’s official website.
- Candidates need to look for “Download GATE 2024 Admit Card” or a similar tab on this website to the official website of IISC, Bangalore.
- After clicking the hyperlink, aspirants need to enter their GATE login credentials – Enrollment ID/registered Email ID, Password, Security Text, or any other information asked for in the exam.
- Click on the ‘Submit’ tab.

Instructions to candidates
- An electronic copy of the Admit Card is NOT acceptable. A printed copy of the Admit Card must be presented for verification along with the original valid photo identification document submitted at the time of application. In case the quality of the photograph on the identification document is poor, the candidate must bring an additional recent valid photo ID (Aadhaar Card, Driving License, PAN Card, Passport, and Voter ID).
- To facilitate identity verification by the Examination Centre personnel, candidates are advised to report to the examination venue at least 90 minutes before the scheduled commencement of the examination. Candidates will NOT BE ALLOWED to log in 30 minutes after the start of the exam.
- Candidates will be permitted to occupy their seats before the scheduled start of the examination. Candidates can log in and start reading the instructions 20 minutes before the start of the examination.
- During the examination, a virtual scientific calculator will be available on the candidate’s computer.
- Personal calculators, mobile phones, watches of any kind, or any other electronic devices are prohibited inside the Examination Centre. Charts, tables, papers, books, sheets, and heavy ornaments are also not allowed inside the Test Centre.
- A scribble pad will be provided for rough work. Candidates must write their name and Registration number on the scribble pad before using it. A candidate can possess only one scribble pad at any point of time. If the scribble pad gets filled, candidates can ask for another scribble pad, after returning the previous one to the invigilator. A scribble pad once surrendered will not be returned to the candidate. At the end of the examination, the scribble pad in possession of the candidate must be returned to the invigilator.
- Candidates must bring their own pen and pencil. Candidates are also allowed to bring a transparent water bottle.
8. Candidates are not allowed to bring any items other than those mentioned above. Examination Centre personnel are not responsible for the safety of the candidate’s personal belongings. Candidates in possession of prohibited items will be deregistered, debarred from the examination, and may also be banned from appearing in future GATE examinations. - Candidates will not be allowed to leave the examination hall before the end of the examination.
- Impersonation and violation of the above guidelines or the Code of Conduct as given in the Information Brochure will lead to cancellation of candidature and attract penal action.
- PwD candidates are advised to bring their assistive devices, if any, and show them to the Examination Centre personnel for scrutiny.
- PwD candidates who have been granted one-hour compensatory time in GATE 2024 examination are allowed to leave the examination hall after 12.30 PM in the forenoon session and after 5.30 PM in the afternoon session, by clicking the SUBMIT button only in the presence of the Invigilator. Once they click the SUBMIT button, the responses will be frozen, and the exam will end for them.
