Electronics & Telecommunications Engineering: IES/ ESE 2020 Prelims | PAPER and CUTOFF Analysis
The Prelims stage of Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2020 IES was conducted on 5th January, 2020. The exam was conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for the selection in Indian Engineering Services (IES). Mr. B. Singh, CMD MADE EASY, along with the Electronics & Telecommunications Engineering (E&T Engineering) faculties has analysed the question paper for the students. In this article, we will be sharing detailed review of the paper and what should be the future strategy for the students. The trend of the paper has been constantly shifting in the past few years. Leaving any portion of the syllabus can cost heavily in this scenario.
Now let’s discuss about the subject wise analysis of E&T Engineering of ESE 2019 Prelims paper:
Network Theory: A large number of questions were asked this year. As many as 20 questions were asked from this section. Compared to this year, the level of questions were also very easy.
EDC: This year the number of questions was reduced to 2 and they were from photo devices. The level of questions was very easy.
Analog Electronics: There were 12 questions asked this year compared to 11 questions asked last year. The only topic left out was Oscillators and Feedback. 11 questions were very easy to solve while 1 question was a bit difficult.
Material Science: This year 10 questions were asked compared to 13 questions asked in the last year. Out of the 10 questions asked, 6 were easy and 4 were a bit difficult as they were more focused on the mechanical properties of the materials.
Basics of Electrical Engineering: Same as previous year, 8 questions were asked and they were evenly distributed across the syllabus.
Control System: Unlike the usual practice, this year almost all the questions were theoretical in nature. The questions were very easy and this was a scoring part of the paper.
Electromagnetic Field Theory: The number of questions asked in this subject has been consistent over the years.
Computer Organization and Architecture: This year 11 questions were asked and all were theoretical in nature. The questions were evenly distributed and had a right mix of easy, moderate and tough questions.
Advanced Electronics: This year 5 questions were asked and they were evenly distributed across all topics. Out of the 5 questions asked, 4 can be easily answered.
Digital Circuits: The questions were quite easy. 10 questions were asked out of which maximum were theoretical. However, the level of questions was from moderate to tough.
Measurement & Instrumentation: Weight age was similar to the previous year as 12 questions were asked. Questions were on the easier side.
Analog & Digital Communication: This year 16 questions were asked as compared to 11 questions asked previous year. Out of the 16 questions, 4 questions were from Analog Communication and 12 questions were from Digital Communication. The questions were very well distributed across the entire syllabus and had a right mix of theoretical and numerical questions. The questions were on the easier side.
Advanced Communication: Previous year 14 questions were asked and this year 11 questions were asked. The questions were very easy and straight forward.
Signal & Systems: This year 10 questions were asked as compared to 4 questions asked last year. The questions had the right mix of easy, moderate and tough questions.
