Rajasthan Public Service Commission has recently released job notification for the posts of Assistant Engineer (AEN) offering in total 1014 vacancies. Engineering candidates from civil, mechanical, electrical branches must gear up to apply for the posts. As per official notification, the online application window will open from 14th August 2024 to 12th September 2024. What is RPSC?
Rajasthan Public Service Commission, a part of the Rajasthan government. Eligibility
It is the basic requirement that RPSC expects the candidates appearing for the entrance exam must process. Accordingly, the eligibility criteria are of various types: Age, Educational Qualification, other
Age Range
Minimum 21 years and maximum 40 years as on 01.01.2025.
Note:- The posts as per the official notification were advertised by the Commission in the year 2018 under which the basis of calculation of age was kept as 01.01.2019. Thereafter no advertisement was issued for the said posts. Therefore, the candidates who are of age on 01.01.2025 will be given maximum age as per the provisions prescribed in the rules.
Additional relaxation of three years in age limit will be given. Provisions for relaxation in age limit for various classes/other specific categories for the reserved posts shown as per the advertised posts.

RPSC-AEN Vacancies 2024
Required Educational Qualifications:
- Civil (AEN) Post no. 1 and 3 – B.E. (Civil) or qualification declared equivalent thereto by the Government.
- Mechanical and Electrical (AEN) Post no. 2. – B.E. (Mechanical or Electrical) or qualification declared equivalent thereto by the Government.
- Electrical (AEN) Post No. 4 – B.E. (Electrical) or qualification declared equivalent thereto by the Government.
- Civil (AEN) Post No. 5 – B.E. (Mechanical) or qualification declared equivalent thereto by the Government.
- Mechanical (AEN) Post No. 6 – Degree in Civil/Agriculture Engineering from a University established by law in India or qualifications declared equivalent thereto by the State Government.
- Civil/Agriculture (AEN) Post No. 7 – Working knowledge of Hindi written in Devnagari Script and knowledge of Rajasthani culture.

Scheme of Examination
The selection of candidates for appointment to the respective posts is based on merit in the recruitment test. The examination is held as per the scheme of examination.
The appearance of all the papers is compulsory. Absence in any of the papers will automatically lead to disqualification of his candidature.
RPSC-AEN Exam, one of the most prestigious organizations, is conducted to test the technical understanding and application of the concepts of various candidates in their respective streams. Therefore, the selection procedure for the RPSC-AEN Exam is divided into three phases with the RPSC-AEN exam syllabus.

Preliminary examination:
The preliminary Examination will consist of two papers, i.e. one compulsory paper and one optional paper, which will be of objective type and carry a maximum of 400 marks in the subjects mentioned in Section ‘A and B’.

- The Examination is meant to serve as a screening test only.
- The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination by the candidates who are declared qualified for admission to the Main examination, will not be counted for determining their final order of merit.
- The number of candidates to be admitted to the main Examination will be fifteen times the total approximate number of vacancies to be filled in the year through the examination in the various Services and Posts, but in the said range all those candidates who secure the same marks as may be fixed by the Commission for any lower range will be admitted to the main examination.
Mains examination:
The written examination will consist of the following papers which will be conventional type. A candidate must take all the compulsory subjects and any one of the optional subjects listed below. Each of the optional subjects will have two papers. The time allowed for each paper shall be three hours.

Personality and Viva-Voce Examination
- Candidates who obtain such minimum qualifying marks in the written test of the Main examination as may be fixed by the Commission in their discretion shall be summoned by them for interview. Provided that no candidate who fails to obtain a minimum of 35% marks in each of the two compulsory papers and a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate shall be called by the Commission for interview which carries 72 marks.
- The Commission shall award marks to each candidate interviewed by them. In interviewing the candidates besides awarding marks in respect of character, personality, address and physique, marks shall also be awarded for the candidate’s knowledge of Rajasthani culture. The marks so awarded shall be added to the marks obtained in the written test of the main examination by each such candidate.
- The standard of the paper will be that of a Bachelor’s Degree level except paper on Hindi which will be of Senior Secondary Level.
- All papers unless specifically required shall be answered either in Hindi or in English, but no candidate shall be permitted to answer any one paper partly in Hindi and partly in English unless specifically allowed to do so.
- If a candidate’s hand-writing is not easily legible, a deduction will be made on this account from the total marks otherwise accruing to him.
- Credit will be given for orderly, effective and exact expression combined with due economy of words in all subjects of the examination.
- It is obligatory for a candidate to appear in all the compulsory papers and in optional papers.

Preliminary examination: the preliminary examination consists of two papers one compulsory and the other optional. The syllabus for both has been specified below.

- Current affairs- international, national, and regional.
- General Science and its applications to the day to day life contemporary developments in Science and Technology and Information Technology
- The social-economic and political history of modern India with emphasis on the Indian national movement.
- Indian polity and governance: constitutional issues, public policy, reforms and e-governance initiatives.
- Economic development with respect to Rajasthan.
- Geography and natural resources.

RPSC-AEN Exam Cut-off
The candidates will be selected and allotted to Service/Department as per their rank in the merit list and as per zonal preference opted by the applicant at the time of making an application to the post online. Mere securing minimum qualifying marks does not confer any right to the candidate for being considered for the selection.

Job profile for RPSC-AEN
All the candidates selected for the AE post after the three-tier stage of the RPSC will take the salary every month in Pay Matrix Level (L – 14). The candidates must follow the rules and regulations that Rajasthan Public Service Commission sets in their RPSC recruitment criteria.
Some important points
- The Commission does not recommend any candidate for the State Engineering Services (SES), who has failed to obtain a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate.
- In case of women candidates belonging to the backward classes, most backward classes, scheduled castes, or the scheduled tribes, the Commission recommends the names of such candidates up to the number of vacancies reserved for them from among those who have qualified for an interview, even if they fail to obtain the aggregate marks prescribed above.
- The candidates must produce the original documents when the commission calls the candidates for an interview. If the candidate fails to produce the certificates (if any) and/or the particulars furnished in the application form, you must ensure that you do not tally with the candidate’s original documents. If this is not available, the candidature will be rejected/disqualified without any further correspondence.
- The authorities conduct the exam process for the candidature for recruitment through computer devices based on the particulars furnished in the application form. Therefore, the candidate must fill in all the relevant particulars carefully at the time of submission.
- The appointment of selected candidates must fulfill the medical fitness criteria in the respective medical classification. The reports must confirm that the candidate must have sound health and active habits.
