DMRC Career: All about Delhi Metro Rail Corporation

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation abbreviated as DMRC is a Centre-state Public Sector company that operates the Delhi Metro. Apart from operating the Delhi Metro the DMRC is also involved in the planning and implementation of metro rail, monorail, and high-speed rail projects in India and abroad. The work of DMRC is fragmented into various parts which are Projects, Operation, and Maintenance, Finance, Human Resources, etc. It is a joint venture company with equity participation from Govt. of India and Govt. of National Capital Territory of Delhi.

Every year the DMRC invites applications for technical vacancies in their organization. Candidates after selection are likely to be posted at Delhi/NCR or any other projects of DMRC, anywhere in India. The DMRC recruitment posts are divided into two categories the executive which is for the post of Assistant Manager and the non-executive category which is for the post of Junior Engineer.

In this article, we would like to talk about DMRC recruitment, and therefore the article is divided into 5 parts:

  1. Eligibility Criteria
  2. Selection Procedure
  3. Type of paper and syllabus
  4. Job profile

A.    Eligibility criteria

1.    Age limit:

  • The age limit for the DMRC examination is between 18 to 28 years. However, some relaxations are also provided like:
  • Upper age relaxation by 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC candidates
  • Upper age relaxations by 5 years for candidates belonging to Jammu & Kashmir who had ordinarily been domiciled in that state between 01.01.1980 and 31.12.1989
  • The upper age for Ex-servicemen will be the length of service + 3 years, subject to a maximum age of 40 years.
  • Upper age relaxation by 10 years for PWD Unreserved candidates, 15 years for PWD SC/ST candidates, and 13 years for PWD OBC candidates (of the central list) for posts where reservation for PWD is admissible.

2.    Educational Qualifications:

One can apply to these given posts if they fulfill the eligibility criteria and the Educational Qualification mentioned by the DMRC recruitment notification. The Qualifications are different for various posts depending on the branch one has applied from. Apart from the Educational Qualifications, other eligibility criteria are also mentioned by DMRC.

We shall first discuss the Educational Qualifications for the various posts of Assistant Manager and Junior engineer.

A.    DMRC Assistant Manager

Candidates should have got a minimum of 60% marks/equivalent CGPA in BE/B Tech in Electrical/Electronics/Mechanical/Civil or in equivalent trade from a Govt. recognized University/Institute, with a valid GATE score OR 02 (Two) year full-time MBA with 60% marks/equivalent CGPA having specialization in Marketing/International Business Operations/Logistics from a Govt. recognized University/Institute

Fire B.Sc. (Three years duration) or equivalent from a Govt. recognized University with a one-year Advance Diploma of National Fire Service College of Nagpur or BE(Fire) of NFSC, Nagpur or equivalent

Apart from the above-mentioned qualification, there are other Special cases where a person can apply for the above posts:

  1. A person with a higher qualification than mentioned in the eligibility criteria can also apply for the post. However, for the post of Maintainer/ (Electrician, Electronic Mechanic, Ref & AC Mechanic, and Fitter) it is mandatory for the candidates to have done ITI in specified, above-mentioned trades.
  2. If a candidate is qualified for more than one post he/she can apply to any number of posts.
  3. All the candidates who are appearing for the qualifying exam (which would make them educationally eligible for these posts) are also eligible for applying to these posts. These candidates will be admitted to the examination but their candidature will be provisional. Unable to provide proof of passing the qualifying examination on the date of publication of the result of CBT by DMRC for Non-executive posts or on the date of GD /Interview for Executive posts, their candidature is liable to be canceled.

C. Selection Procedure:

  1. DMRC Executive post:

For the executive posts the selection procedure is a three-stage process:

  • CBT (two papers),
  • Group Discussion & Personal Interview
  • Followed by Medical Examination in the Executive(Technical/Non-technical) category.
  1. DMRC Non-Executive post:

For the non-executive post, the selection procedure is a two-stage process:

  • CBT (two papers),
  • followed by Medical Examination in prescribed medical standard

For Maintainer’s posts, the selection procedure will comprise a two-stage process:

  • CBT (One paper),
  • Followed by Medical Examination in prescribed medical standards.

Important points:

  • The candidates are required to qualify for all the examinations along with the medical examination to be finally selected for both executive and non-executive posts.
  • The selection process is aimed at testing the candidate’s knowledge and judging him/her on different facets of knowledge, skills, comprehension, aptitude, and physical fitness.

C. Different types of tests conducted during DMRC recruitment and their syllabus:

  • Computer Based Test (CBT);

The CBT examination in the DMRC recruitment consists of two papers (Paper I and Paper II which will both be held on the same day in the same center)

  • All the candidates who qualify for both the papers separately and rank high on merit as decided by the DMRC will be called for the Medical Examination/GD & Interview, at Delhi/NCR.
  • Candidates (for all categories of posts) called for GD & Interviews shall be paid to & fro sleeper class Railway fare for the journey by the shortest route between Railway Station nearest to their hometown & Delhi.
  • DMRC Medical Examination:
  • All the candidates whether after the Interview or after CBT will have to undergo the medical fitness test(s) and meet the medical standards prescribed by DMRC for various posts.
  • Expenses for the first-time medical examination of the candidate will be borne by DMRC. However, in case a candidate seeks an extension for joining or re-examination, the expenditure for the medical test/s will be borne by the candidate himself/herself.

  • DMRC JEs can also be deputed as SC/TO after due training & psychometric test for Line-6 & Line-8 of DMRC as per the requirement of the Corporation shift.
  • The duty of the DMRC JEs will be in different shifts including the night shift.

Surety Bond: All the candidates who are selected for posts under Executive Cadre/Non-Executive Cadre will have to execute a surety bond. They will have to serve the corporation for a minimum period of three years (exclusive of the period in which one remained on LWP or EOL) and also a prior notice will be required before seeking resignation from the corporation. 03 months’ prior notice for Regular posts and 01-month notice for Contractual posts. Failing to follow the above-mentioned guidelines the candidate will be penalized.

Training: All the candidates (both Regular & Contract) who are selected have to undergo intensive training for the prescribed duration before posting on the job. The Corporation has the right to enhance or reduce the training period at its discretion for any or all the trainees.

Probation: The selected candidates (on regular posts) on appointment will be on Probation for a period of two years (including the period of training). During the probation period, candidates shall be required to pass various examinations. In case the candidate’s performance is found unsatisfactory by the corporation the service of the candidate during the probation period will be terminated in accordance with the terms & conditions of the offer of appointment & receipt of the satisfactory police report. The probation period will exclude LWP or EOL.

Important Points with respect to the selection and application from:

  1. The application is for both executive and non-executive posts at the DMRC
  2. A single candidate can apply for more than one post if he/she is eligible for the post.
  3. For each post applied the candidate has to deposit a separate fee.
  4. The validity of the Selection Panel is for two years from the date of its approval.
  5. Make sure that you follow the eligibility criteria as failure to do so will deem your candidature canceled.
