NHPC Limited: All about National Hydroelectric Power Corporation

NHPC Limited (National Hydroelectric Power Corporation), incorporated in 1975 is an Indian Hydropower generation company. The Public Sector Company earlier had an objective to plan, promote and organize an integrated and efficient development of hydroelectric power in all aspects. After a few years, NHPC expanded its objects to include other sources of energy like Solar, Geothermal, Tidal, Wind, etc.

At present, NHPC is a MiniRatna Category-I Enterprise of the Govt. of India and is among the top ten companies in the country in terms of investment. Presently NHPC Limited has become the largest organization for hydropower development in India. It has the capacity to undertake any activity from the conceptualization stage to the commissioner in relation to the setting up of hydro projects. NHPC Limited is also planning to take Wind and Tidal wave projects in the country.

NHPC has various power stations in India’s various locations:

  • Himachal Pradesh: Baira Siul, Chamera -II, Chamera -III, Parbati-III,
  • Jammu & Kashmir: Kishan Ganga, Chutak, Uri-II, Nimmo-Bazgo, Sewa-II, Dulhasti, Uri-I, Salal k
  • Uttarakhand: Tanakpur, Dhauliganga
  • Sikkim: Rangit, Teesta -V
  • West Bengal: Teesta Low Dam – III, Teesta Low Dam – IV
  • Rajasthan: Jaisalmer
  • Tamil Nadu: solar Power
  • Madhya Pradesh: Indira Sagar, Omkareshwar
  • Manipur: Loktak,

The two power stations Parbati -II in Himachal Pradesh and Subansiri (lower) in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.

Small Hydro Projects:

  • Kambang Project (6MW), Ar. Pradesh
  • Sippi Project (4MW), Ar. Pradesh

Recruitment:

NHPC, a MiniRatna company that is classified as an “A” class company to work with is a Public Sector Undertaking under the Government of India every year, recruits candidates for various posts. The basic information about the post of Trainee Engineer and selection procedure is mentioned below:

Trainee Engineer:  The Trainee Engineers are re-suited through the GATE examination. The candidate must apply for the GATE exam and mention their roll number in the application form of NHPC. Depending on the vacancy and marks obtained a cut-off is released by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation for the selection of candidates.

1. Eligibility:

Only Indian Nationals are eligible to apply.

The maximum age limit is 30 Yrs.

  • The upper age limit indicated above is for the general category.
  • Age relaxation is provided to various category students as per the Govt. of India guidelines
  • Upper age relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST.
  • Upper age relaxation is 3 years for OBC (noncreamy layer) candidates.
  • Upper age relaxation is 10 years for Pwd-general, 13 years for PWD -OBC, and Pwd -SC/ST.
  • The upper age relaxation is for 5 years for students who had ordinarily been domiciled in Jammu &Kashmir from 01.01.1980 to 31.12.1989.

2. Educational Qualifications:

The educational Qualifications for the various post is as mentioned below:

2.  Trainee Engineers (Civil) Full-time regular Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/B.SC(Engineering ) degree in Civil Discipline from recognized university /Institute approved by AICTE with minimum 60% marks or equivalent grade or AIME with minimum 60% marks or equivalent grade
3. Trainee Engineers (Mechanical ) Full-time regular Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/B.SC(Engineering ) degree in Mechanical Discipline from recognized university /Institute approved by AICTE with minimum 60% marks or equivalent grade or AIME with minimum 60% marks or equivalent grade

 

  • Reservation for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/Person with disabilities (Degree of disability is more than 40% as per government certificate).
  • SC/ST and PwD candidates with 50% marks in GATE Exam are eligible to apply.

3. Selection Procedure: 

Applicants shall be shortlisted from the applicants registered with NHPC as per merit primarily based on the GATE marks and shall be provisionally selected and extended “Offer of Appointment” on a temporary basis.

4. Salary Structure:

Candidates will be placed in the (E2) band has the scale of Rs. 20600-3%-46500 for all age positions (Payscale is provisional). Candidates will be placed in the E2 cadre with a pay scale of 20600-3%-46500 (IDA). They will be absorbed after one year of probation in the officer cadre with a pay scale of 24900-3%-50500.

5. Service Bond:

The students selected are eligible to serve under the bond period of 4 years including the time spent on the training in National Hydroelectric Power Corporation. The bond amount is Rs. 2.50 lacks for General and Rs.1.25 lacks for SC/ST.

6. Other Details:

  • Any candidate appearing for the final year of their degree program is ineligible to apply for NHPC Recruitment through GATE.
  • If any information given by the candidate is found to be false at any stage, the candidate will be terminated.
  • The Caste Certificate should be in line with the NHPC certificate details given.
  • If found that you are above the age limit after clearing the exam your admission will not be considered.
  • It is necessary to have an email Id and keep it functional throughout the examination process as all the notifications will be sent via email.
  • Internal candidates who fulfill the admission criteria can apply.
  • The candidates who are currently working with any Government/Non-Government organization/PSU/Autonomous bodies have to furnish a NOC (No Objection Certificate) at the time of joining NHPC Limited. If not furnished the candidature will be considered terminated.
  • In the case of ambiguity that comes up during the process of selection because of language issues, support will be given to the meaning of the statements in the English language.
  • NHPC holds all the rights to cancel/alter/terminate/restrict/enlarge/modify the recruitment process at any time without prior information or updates given to the candidates.
  • The vacancies that are stated can be increased or decreased by the discretion of the NHPC authority without intimating the candidate.
  • In the case of any dispute the jurisdiction of the competent court of Faridabad or High Court of Punjab and Haryana (Chandigarh), will be considered.
