The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, popularly known as GATE, is an examination conducted annually by 7 IITs and IISc Bangalore. Generally, GATE is conducted in the month of February every year in various technical as well as non-technical subjects. In 2025, GATE was conducted by IIT Roorkee in 30 different streams. The exam was held on the 1st, 2nd, 15th, and 16th of February 2025, and the results were announced on the 19th of March 2025. After getting good score candidates would need to register themselves on COAP portal for admissions in M.Tech/MS course in top institutions. Most of these institutions conduct written test along with interview before final selection.
• Recruitment in various state bodies: A good GATE score indicates that candidate has good technical knowledge. Generally a lot of state bodies recruit engineers on the basis of GATE score on permanent as well as temporary basis. This is the best option for those candidates who want to stay in a particular state. The criteria of selection is different for every state body.
• Recruitment in research institutions: Various research institutions like BARC shortlisting of candidates for the post of Scientist-C son the basis of GATE score. After getting shortlisted, candidates have to appear for interview or other subsequent rounds before final selection.
