NPCIL RECRUITMENT:

1. Executive Trainee

Based on the previous trends, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) releases the notification for vacancies as per their requirements for the post of Executive Trainee through the GATE exam.

 

Educational Qualifications:

In the past years, the educational qualifications for the candidates were that they should have completed B.E/B. Tech/B. Sc. (Engineering)/5-years Integrated M Tech in respective disciplines.

Candidates who have completed 5-years of integrated courses leading to M.E/M. Tech. in the relevant discipline may also apply for NPCIL recruitment.

Final year students can also apply if they can produce proof of their eligibility and final marks sheet during the final rounds of NPCIL recruitment.

 

Eligible Branches:

Based on the previous years’ record of vacancies, the recruitment of Executive Trainee in Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, the eligible branches include Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Chemical, and Civil engineering.

Apart from this, candidates must keep a note that 10 selected Executive Trainees will receive postings in the Industrial and Fire Safety department. Along with this, certain ETs will receive postings at other departments such as Research and Development, Design and Engineering, Procurement, and Quality Assurance, to name a few.

 

Passing marks:

For the recruitment done in the last few years, the candidates interested to apply for this post must have an aggregate of a minimum of 60% during graduation to become eligible for the post of the executive trainee.

 

Age Limit:

As per the latest updates available on the official website (as per notification for the GATE 2022 session), the upper age limit for the position of NPCIL is mentioned below. Apart from this, the aspirants also receive special relaxation based on their respective categories.

  • For the OBC category students, the upper age limit is 29 years (relaxation – 3 years)
  • For the SC/ST category students, the upper age limit is 31 years. (relaxation – 5 years)
  • In the case of candidates who are dependents of those who died in the riots of 1984, the upper age limit is 31 years, i.e., a relaxation of 5 years is available for them.
  • For students of Jammu & Kashmir Domiciled, the upper age limit is 31 years.
  • In the case of candidates who are ex-servicemen and commissioned officers – including Emergency Commissioned Officers or Short Service Commissioned Officers, the relaxation age is 5 years.
  • For Persons with Disability (PWD) – 10 years of relaxation (applicable on the upper age limit).
  • For PwBD – General/EWS Category, the upper age limit is 36 years.
  • For PwBD – OBC Category candidates the upper age limit is 39 years.
  • For PwBD – SC/ST Category candidates the upper age limit is 41 years.

Candidates need to remember that the cumulative age relaxation available is a maximum of 56 years. Employees currently working at NPCIL have one benefit – they do not have any age limit to apply for these positions.

 

Selection Procedure:

As per the latest updates, the recruitment officials at the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited accept the GATE scores of the interested candidates as per their recruitment norms to apply for the NPCIL selection. This is the first round of recruitment at NPCIL.

In the next round, the shortlisted candidates receive the interview call. The final selection is performed based on the cumulative score of both GATE and interview scores.

 

Salary Structure and perks:

The selected trainees will be given compensation as follows during the training period:

Monthly Stipend – Rs. 35,000

Book Allowance (One time) – Rs. 18,000

Mandatory Lodging (on nominal charge) & Boarding – In NPCIL Hostels/accommodations provided by them.

 

Salary after one year of training is completed:

Once the training is complete, the candidate is appointed as Scientific Officer/C (SO/C) in Group ‘A’. Following is the salary structure thereafter:

Pay Band: Rs. 56,100

Grade Pay: Rs. 5400

Dearness Allowance (DA): 34% of Pay in the Pay Matrix (as of 01.01.2022)

Note: The Government of India notifies the changes in the Dearness Allowance (DA) from time to time.

Apart from this, the concerned officials receive certain allowances and incentives based on the profile of the respective candidate. You can find the details in the later part of this blog post.

 

2. Stipendiary Trainee

Educational Qualifications:

The latest educational qualification required for the Stipend Trainee recruitment is a Diploma with not less than 60% marks in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Electronics Engineering recognized by the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development. The Diploma in Engineering should be of three years duration after SSC/HSC.

1. Stipendiary Trainee/ Technician (ST/TN) (Category-I/Cat-I)

Diploma with not less than 60% marks in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Electronics Engineering recognized by the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development. The candidate must have completed three years diploma after SSC/HSC.

OR

2 years Diploma through lateral entry to 2nd year after HSC approved by AICTE. The candidate must have secured at least 60% marks in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering.

Candidate must have had English as one of the subjects at least at SSC or HSC level examination.

Note: Candidates who have pursued a Diploma through lateral entry to a second-year Diploma after SSC + ITI are not eligible.

2. Stipendiary Trainee/ Technician

(ST/TN) (Category-II)

The candidate must have completed SSC (10th) with a minimum of 50% marks in Science subject (s) and Mathematics individually and 2 years ITI certificate in relevant trade (Fitter/Instrumentation).

For trades for which the duration of the ITI course is less than 2 years, the candidates must have at least one year of working experience (relevant) after course completion.

Candidate must have at least English as one of the subjects at the SSC level examination.

Note: The candidate must possess a certificate in trades relevant to the field of training and appointment in O&M.

 

Stipend during Training (for Category-I candidates):

During the 1st year, the monthly stipend is Rs. 16,000.

In the next 6 months, the monthly stipend becomes Rs. 18,000.

 

Bond:

The selected candidates need to execute an Agreement, Indemnity Bond/Bank Guarantee, and Service Bond for a period of 3 (three) times the period of training subject to a minimum of two years and a maximum of five years. In the event of a breach of bond, the amount repayable will be equivalent to the stipend with the book allowance received.

 

After training:

On successful completion of training, the candidates will be joining NPCIL as Scientific Assistant/B at a minimum pay of Rs. 35,400/-. It is decided according to the level 6 associated with the Revised Pay Structure (Pay Matrix) under CCS (RP) rules. The officials may grant the candidates certain additional increments based on the respective candidates’ performance with the extant rules.

 

3. Assistant Grade:

As per the latest notification, the educational qualification for candidates in Assistant Grade 1 is as follows:

Age limit:

As per the latest details, the upper age limit for the candidates is 28 years, whereas the lower age limit is 21 Years. However, special age relaxation is provided to various category students:

  • For the Scheduled Castes category students, the upper age relaxation is 5 years.
  • For the Other Backward Class (non-creamy layer) category students, the upper age relaxation is 3 years.
  • For the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PWBD) students, the upper age relaxation is 10 years.
  • For the PWBD Scheduled Castes category students, the upper age relaxation is 15 Years
  • For the PWBD – Other Backward Class (non-creamy layer) category students, the upper age relaxation is 13 years.
  • For the Ex-Servicemen, the upper age relaxation is a period of military service with additional 3 years.

 

Selection Process – NPCIL Recruitment:

Earlier, the candidate’s selection procedure for the post of Assistant Grade – I had a simple procedure. They had to undergo a written test along with a skill test. One had to qualify for both exams for the final empanelment.

 

Written examination:

The written examination will be held in two stages:

Stage 1: Preliminary test

This examination will consist of 50 multiple-choice questions (Choice of four answers) of 1 (one) hour duration in the following proportion:

The test will be for an hour duration for a maximum of 150 marks.

Each correct answer carries 3 marks and every negative answer deducts one mark.

Tests may be conducted in single/multiple sessions depending upon logistics requirements.

 

Qualifying marks:

The qualifying standards shall be as follows:

For general category – 40% marks

For SC/OBC category — 30% marks

Stage 2: Advanced Test

All the selected candidates of stage 1 will appear for stage 2.

The Test will be of 02 (two) hours duration for a maximum of 150 marks.

 

The test will comprise 50 Multiple choice questions (Choice of four answers) from the following syllabus:

(Three) marks to be awarded for each correct answer and 01 (one) mark to be deducted for each incorrect answer.

 

Qualifications Criteria:

The qualifying standards for the exams conducted earlier for recruitment would be as follows:

General category: 30%

SC/OBC: 20%

Stage 3: Skill Test

Based on the merit list which will be prepared after Stage 2, candidates will be shortlisted for the skill test. The candidates appearing for the skill test will not be more than 5 times the actual number of vacancies for each post.

 

The skill test for Assistant Grade 1 will consist of:

  • Typewriting Test on Personal Computer (PC) in the English language; and
  • Computer Proficiency Test

Candidates clearing the Skill Test will be shortlisted and impaneled in order of merit based on marks secured in Stage 2. The candidates shortlisted for the last round (Stage 3) will attempt the skill test after the concerned officials conduct the complete document verification.

 

Now, let us understand the selection process for the post of Executive Trainee at Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited for engineers with the engineering disciplines such as Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, and Chemical engineering can apply based on their GATE 2022. (Note: The GATE scores accepted for the recruitment round at NPCIL concerning the GATE 2020, 2021, and 2022.   • Candidates must note that only GATE 2020, GATE 2021, and GATE 2022 are valid for the recruitment process. The authorities will not entertain/accept previous years’ GATE scores for 2019 or earlier ones.
  • The officials will shortlist the candidates falling into the PwBD separately with the same ratio based on the total number of reserved seats for the respective category. The selection depends on the cut-off.
  • The shortlisted candidates can download the call letters for the interview directly from the official website.
  • The final selection also depends on the performance in the personal interview with the medical fitness. The qualifying marks in the interview round for the unreserved category and EWS/SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/PwBD are 70% and 60% respectively.
  • Candidates must also note that a separate list will be prepared for the ones belonging to the PwBD category.
  • Exam takers can check their results on the official website npcilcareers.co.in via individual login with the help of the details received at the time of registration.
  • In the last step, candidates finalized for the role of Executive Trainee at NPCIL must confirm their acceptance within the specified date.

Ans. The candidates selected for the position of Executive Trainees at NPCIL receive full-fledged training for a one-year duration. This includes training for the Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PWHR) Stream, and Light Water Reactor (LWR) Stream. The training sessions depend on the engineering discipline of the respective candidate.
