GATE 2024: 5 Things you need to know

Due to its vast syllabus and high competition, GATE 2024 exam requires full dedication from the candidates. With respect to the same, these are the top 5 things you need to know about GATE exam 2024.

1. Strategize:

Before you start your preparation, strategizing is important. Without a GATE preparation strategy, a plan is only a plan. With the right strategy, a plan leads to the desired results in the exam. Therefore, strategize the required and possible aspects in the best possible manner. Let us discuss how to strategize different aspects like a pro:

  1. GATE Syllabus: Well, before you start strategizing for the GATE exam, the first thing to do is know the GATE 2024 exam. Right from the GATE syllabus to the GATE pattern, one should know the required details about the GATE 2024 exam. Knowing the syllabus of the exam in GATE format will help you break down the syllabus into individual subjects and later into topics. It will help you prepare for the exam and complete the syllabus before the exam day.
  2. Books: Depending on your syllabus, finalize the books that you will be referring to during your preparation. You can also join any coaching institute for your preparation or refer to their postal course. These postal courses will help you get the required books for each subject, and you will not have to refer to other books. You can get books for GATE exam from MADE EASY Publications.
  3. Plan: After breaking down the GATE syllabus, make a plan about the exam preparation plan for completing the important topics specified in the exam. Make a long-term and short-term plan for a strong GATE preparation strategy. A long-term plan will include the revision schedule right before the exam day. Accordingly, you will decide on how to complete the GATE syllabus, previous year papers, test series, and revision. However, a short-term plan will include your weekly plan, which will help you reach your long-term goals successfully.
  4. Prioritize: Everything in life has its own importance. As time passes, priorities change. During the GATE 2024 exam preparation, you must prioritize your learning of the respective topics in the chosen subject. Previous year’s papers will help you largely in this step. The previous year’s papers will help you understand the important aspects that will require greater dedication and are easy to tackle. However, you cannot leave any topic or subject, especially if it is included in the GATE syllabus. Therefore, prioritize your subjects’ preparation and revision accordingly for the desired results.

2. Concentration:

Due to the challenging aspects of the GATE 2024 exam and the comparatively lower rate of success, the candidates must be dedicated to their GATE preparation strategy and study with full concentration. Full concentration does not necessarily mean studying 24*7; it means that one should avoid any distractions. In addition, you must make it a point to utilize the entire time available during the respective session. Some of the effective ways to concentrate well include the following:

  1. Avoid social media: Social media platforms are quite useful, but these platforms can be a strong source of distraction for GATE preparation. Therefore, while working towards your goal with a concrete GATE preparation strategy, stay away from social media for a particular period. In this way, you do not distract from your intended goal.
  2. Utilize your breaks: Breaks are extremely necessary when preparing for the GATE 2024 exam, but the type of break you take is very important. Avoid long breaks where you are either sitting or scrolling your social media, watching a movie, or gossiping with your friends. It will not contribute to your preparation or distract you further. Therefore, when taking breaks, you can read a novel, discuss with your friends, solve aptitude questions, or go for a walk or run. Remember to dedicate a particular time to the respective activity to avoid unnecessary time wastage.
  3. Have a plan and make sure to complete it: While making a plan is the best way to remain concentrated on your studies, how much time you take to complete it also matters. Try to make daily plans in advance and make sure you complete them on that particular day. It is possible to implement and bring these plans into reality.
  4. Reward yourself:  We have trained our human brains to work for rewards. GATE 2024 exam aspirants can utilize this proven technique to increase their concentration level. If you complete your weekly target successfully, reward yourself with something you love. This will stimulate your brain to work towards the competitive exam goal with full dedication to the rewards.

3. Spend some time alone:

Self-contemplation is the best trait that humans possess, but due to running time and busy life, we forget to stop and contemplate. Well, for this exam you will need to do this. This self-time will help you understand if the ongoing plan and study-related activities are working out properly or not.

Self-contemplation will make you self-aware of what you might be doing wrong and which areas need improvement. You can spend me-time in the following ways:

  1. Go for a walk or run every day: This will help you stay healthy and fit and give you enough quality time alone to regain energy for the next GATE 2024 preparation round. You can actually write down the things that you believe can be improved and accordingly incorporate them into your plan.
  2. Before you go to sleep: Every day before you go to sleep, stay silent and think about the day that has just passed. Think of all the good things you did and the time that you could have prevented from being wasted.

4. Time Management:

One of the common traits that all toppers possess and that is highly beneficial while preparing for the GATE 2024 examination is time management. Time management means utilizing time in the most effective and productive way. It helps you concentrate better and follow the GATE preparation strategy that you created before commencing with full-fledged preparation. It makes you more disciplined and sincere in anything that you do. Time management not only helps for this exam, but it will also help you later in life and make you a more productive person.

Most common reasons why time management is required:

  1. Releases Stress:  If you complete your GATE preparation on time, you are highly productive. There is no reason for stress. It will help you live a peaceful and stress-free life.
  2. More opportunity: Managing time well leads to more opportunities and less time wasted on trivial activities. Good time management skills are key qualities that employers look for while choosing candidates at PSUs via the GATE exam. The ability to prioritize and schedule work is extremely desirable for any organization.
  3. Achieve goals: Time management helps in achieving goals faster. It will also give you time to think about your next goal and work towards it with more dedication and sincerity.
  4. Take care of yourself: While the above 4 pointers relate to the studying pattern and the GATE preparation strategy, students and professionals preparing for the competitive exams must follow them. However, the one important point that most students forget is to take care of their health throughout exam preparation. If mental and physical well-being are lost, everything is lost. During the preparation phase, most students start taking their health for granted. While studying is important, students must not prepare for the GATE 2024 exam after compromising their health. Therefore, you need to make sure that you eat and stay healthy throughout the exam preparation.

5. Prioritize mental and physical health

The most effective tips to take care of health include the following:

  1. Avoid junk food: Junk food does not add anything to your body. Students require lots of proteins, vitamins, and minerals to keep their brains and bodies running. Therefore, avoiding junk is a great habit to inculcate right from the time you kick-start the real preparation associated with the Graduate Aptitude in Engineering Exam. Occasionally, one can indulge in junk food, but having it as part of your regular diet is a sin for your body, which you must avoid by all means.
  2. Eat healthy: Healthy foods such as vegetables, fruits, and fresh juices provide you with the much-needed minerals and vitamins that are required for your brain to run at its maximum efficiency. So make sure you have enough fruits and vegetables during the GATE 2024 preparation to suffice all the hard work you are putting in during your study hours.
  3. Drink water: Keeping your body hydrated is extremely important; however, under the pressure of completing the syllabus, students forget to drink enough water. This causes dehydration, illness, and a disruption in studies for 2-3 days. Well, this can be avoided by drinking lots of water. Our brain, too, requires water to keep itself going, and not providing it with enough lubrication will result in it not being able to give the desired results.
So instead of blaming yourself for not being smart and intelligent enough to study, try drinking enough water and eating healthy food. Before you realize it, your brain will start working at a faster pace than you expect, thus helping you prepare well for this challenging competitive exam.
  4. Exercise: Exercise not only changes your body; it also changes your mind, attitude, and mood. By exercising, we don’t mean going to the gym and doing heavy lifting; exercise means just substantial body movement. This includes a stroll in the park, a run, yoga, stretching, and many more. Doing these exercises will not only help your body stay active after the long sitting study hours but also refresh your mind to study with greater efficiency.

The normal study pattern of most of the students while preparing for the exam is to continuously sit for long hours to study in the library or their rooms.

While it is a great way to study with concentration, it can take a toll on your body parts, such as your spine, eyes, stomach, and many more. To avoid all these problems, the best solution is to exercise once a day for maybe just 30 minutes. This exercise will help you immensely, and you will notice the difference in your body fitness and concentration levels during the study sessions.

Some students might think that implementing all five of the above points will be difficult; yes, it is, but not impossible. Everything is difficult in the beginning, but once you make it your hobby and incorporate it into your daily routine, it’s just a piece of cake. The above-mentioned are some of the things that one must know about GATE 2024 preparation.
