NTRO Scientist B Recruitment 2024 via GATE Score, Apply Now

Applications are invited online from Indian nationals for direct recruitment to the position of Scientist ‘B’ at the National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO), a leading organization under the Government of India. Applicants must ensure they meet all eligibility criteria as outlined in the detailed advertisement. Admission to all stages of the recruitment process is provisional and subject to the fulfillment of the prescribed eligibility requirements. Mere issue of admit card/ call letter to the candidate will not imply that his/her candidature has been finally cleared. Eligibility verification, including review of original documents, will be conducted during the interview or at any stage as determined by NTRO. Career Prospects:

Scientific Cadre Officers of this Organization are presently covered under the ‘Revised Flexible Complementing Scheme’ as applicable to various Scientific Organizations as per guidelines issued by the Government of India.

Service Conditions:

The candidates appointed as Scientist B are liable to serve throughout the territory of India including field service and service on sea platform, in respect of such work as may be approved by the organization in the public interest. They will be on probation for a period of 2 years.

Eligibility Conditions:

(i) Crucial Date of Eligibility

The crucial date for determining the eligibility conditions including age, educational qualifications, caste, category etc., shall be the closing date of online application / registration, i.e., 08.11.2024 which will remain unchanged even in the case of extension of closing date.

Mathematics First Class Masters degree of Science in Mathematics/ Applied Mathematics/ Mathematics & Computing/ Mathematical Sciences or any other relevant first class Master’s degree of Science which mentions Mathematics as the major discipline from a recognised University or Institute;

First Class Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology in Mathematics and Computing from a recognised University or Institute.

Mathematics (GATE Paper Code: MA)

Note: Must Possess VALID GATE score card (i.e. CATE- 2022 or 2023 or 2024) in the Paper Code – MA, as on the closing date of online application/ registration.

 

Note – 1: Combination of two or more of above specified discipline/streams is allowed.

Note -2: Candidates who are in possession of Dual/integrated post-graduation degree of the entire course/duration of the study, as on the crucial date of eligibility, in the prescribed disciplines from recognized University/institute in the above mentioned subject/field may also apply.

(b)  For determining the eligibility in respect of above specified essential educational qualification(s), wherever in the degree itself the ‘Class/Division’ is indicated, the same may be treated as “Final”. In case where the ‘Class/Division’ is not mentioned in the candidate’s degree or a particular university/institute does not have any criteria for First Class/Division and where the degree is awarded on the basis of marks, 60% and above marks (i.e., average marks of all semesters covered in the degree) will be considered as “First Class”, In case where the degree is awarded on the basis of CGPA/CPI etc., the percentage should be mentioned by the candidate by applying suitable conversion formula as prescribed by the University/ Institute and he/ she must ensure that the 60% criteria is met. The fraction of percentage will be ignored, i.e., 59.99% will be treated as less than 60%. It shall be the responsibility of the candidate to produce conversion formula to percentage duly issued by concerned University/institute at the time of interview, failing which his/her candidature is liable to be rejected, In case of non-availability of the conversion formula, CGPA/CPI etc. (for a 10-point scale) of 6.75 will be taken as equivalent to 60%. For any scale other than 10point scale, the first class CGPA/CPI etc., (i.e., 675) will be converted proportionately.

(c) The date of passing the essential educational qualification which is reckoned for eligibility will be the date of passing indicated on the mark-sheet / certificate,

(iii) Age Limit:

Not exceeding 30 years as on the crucial date of eligibility.

  1. The upper age limit will be relaxable upto a maximum of five years for Central Government servants in accordance with instructions or orders issued by the Central Government.
  2. The upper age limit prescribed above will be further relaxable:
  1. upto a maximum of five years in the case of candidates belonging to a Scheduled Caste (SC) or Scheduled Tribe (ST);
  2. upto a maximum of three years in the case of candidates belonging to Other Backward Class (Non Creamy Layer) who are eligible to avail reservation applicable to such candidates;
  3. upto a maximum of five years in the case of ex-servicemen, as applicable, as per the extant instructions/order issued by the Government of India as amended from time to time.
  4. upto ten years in the case of PwBD candidates, who are eligible to avail reservation applicable to such candidates;
  5. For any other special category candidates as per the instructions issued by the Central Government in this regard for appointment to the post under Government of India.
  6. Applicants seeking age relaxation will be required to submit/produce original copy of the necessary certificate(s) at the time of Interview or at any stage of the recruitment process, as required by NTRO.
  7. Applicants shall check their eligibility for seeking relaxation in upper age limit carefully. In case of claiming wrong age relaxation by the applicant during the online application/registration, age relaxation allowed at the application/registration stage shall be withdrawn and his/her application will be rejected on account of not falling under the age limit prescribed for the particular post/category.

Note l: Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes and the Other Backward Classes who are also covered under the category of Ex-servicemen or PwBD will be eligible for grant of cumulative age relaxation under both the categories.

Note II: The term ‘Ex-Servicemen’ will apply to the persons who are defined as ‘Ex-servicemen’ in the Ex-servicemen (Re-employment in Civil Services and Posts) Rules, 1979, as amended from time to time.

Note III: A candidate will be eligible to get the benefit of community reservation only in case the particular caste to which the candidate belongs is included in the list of reserved communities issued by the Central Government. The candidates will be eligible to get the benefit of the Economically Weaker Section reservation only in case the candidate meets the criteria issued by the Central Government and is in possession of such eligibility certification. If a candidate indicates in his/her application form that he/she belongs to the Unreserved Category but subsequently requests to change his/her category to a reserved one, such a request shall not be entertained. Further once a candidate has chosen a reserved category, no request shall be allowed for change to any other reserved category (viz., SC to ST, ST to SC, OBC to SC/STJ etc.) No reserved category candidates other than those who qualify each stage of the examination against general standards shall be allowed to change (on their request or as decided by the Competent authority in NTRO based on documents submitted by them) their category from Reserved to Unreserved. However, in such cases where such candidates do not qualify as per general standard, their candidature shall be cancelled.

Note IV: Candidates claiming reservation/relaxation benefits available to SC/ST/OBC/EWSs/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen must ensure that they are entitled to such reservation/relaxation as per eligibility prescribed in the Rules, subject to possession of all requisite certificates in the prescribed format in support of their claims.

Note V: A candidate will be eligible to get the benefit of the Economically Weaker Section reservation only in case the candidate meets the criteria issued by the Central Government and must be in possession of requisite Income & Asset Certificate based on the income for Financial Year 2023-24 and issued on/after 01 .04.2024 and valid for the financial year 2024-25.

Note VI: The OBC candidates must produce OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate issued by the specified competent authority (as notified by the Government of India from time to time) on/after 01 .04.2024 and valid for the financial year   2024-25. The format of certificate to be produced by a candidate belonging to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe in support of his/ her claim shall be as per FORM-A and the format of certificate to be produced by a candidate belonging to Other Backward Classes in support of his/ her claim shall be as per FORM-B and FORM-C. The format of certificate to be produced by a candidate belonging to Economically Weaker Sections in support of his/ her claim shall be as per FORM-D.

Note Vll: The candidates belonging to any of the above mentioned categories seeking reservation/relaxations are required to upload the scanned copy of certificate, strictly in the specified formats only, at the time of online application/ registration and also produce the original copy of the certificates at the time of interview or as and when required by NTRO.

Fee:

Candidates (except SC/ST/PwBD/FemaIe candidates) are required to pay fee of Rs.250/- (Rupees Two Hundred Fifty only) along with the submission of online application form through online payment mode via applications software only. The processing charges towards remittance of Application Fee and service tax, if any, will have to be borne by the candidate. Payment of fee through any other mode is neither valid nor acceptable. Fee once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstances nor shall the fee be held in reserve for any other examination or selection.

How to apply?

  1. The desirous applicants are requested to go through the complete advertisement carefully and satisfy themselves about their eligibility as per laid down criteria which includes possession of VALID GATE score card [i.e. GATE- 2022 or 2023 or 2024 only) in the corresponding GATE paper, before filling up the application form ONLINE. During verification, if it is found, at any stage, that the candidate’s GATE Score (as entered by him/her) is false, NTRO would reserve the right to cancel his/her candidature without any notice and may take appropriate action (including criminal proceedings) against the candidate.
  2. Candidates can apply ONLINE by visiting https://recruit-ndl.nielit.gov.in/ website (link of which is also available at https://ntro.gov.in website). No other means/mode of application will be accepted. Candidates are required to furnish valid “e-mail ID” and active “mobile number” during the ONLINE application/registration. The procedure/steps for filling up of applications online is available at https://recruitndl.nielit.gov.in/.
  3. A candidate can apply only ONE subject/field, i.e., either ‘Electronics & Communications’ or ‘Computer Science’ or ‘Geo-Informatics and Remote Sensing’ or ‘Mathematics’.
  4. The application shall be treated complete only if all the mandatory steps are completed successfully. In case a candidate is not able to submit fee by closing date and time, or the application is otherwise incomplete, his/her candidature will summarily be rejected.
  5. The applicant can view the Application details from the View/Print Application menu option available in their login, The applicant is required to make sure that his/her ONLINE application form is submitted successfully otherwise his/her application form will be treated as incomplete and summarily be rejected.

Scheme of Examination:

Eligible registered candidates will be shortlisted based on valid GATE Score (Not GATE Marks or GATE Ranks) in descending order in each category of respective subject/field. The assessment of the shortlisted candidates will be made on the basis of performance in two stages. The first stage would be a Written Examination (CBT Based) consisting of Objective/Multiple Choice Questions and the Second Stage would be an Interview as per the details given below: –

Note-2: There will be four alternatives for the answers to every question. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, there will be negative marking of 0.5 mark assigned to that question. If a question is left blank/unanswered there will be no penalty for that question.

Interview
Maximum Marks: 50
Note-I: The candidates who are shortlisted on the basis of their performance in Stage-I shall only be called for Stage-ll. The Interview will be conducted at New Delhi only.

 

Selection Procedures

  1. Eligible registered candidates will be shortlisted based on valid GATE Score of respective subject/field. The ratio for shortlisting will be 1:25 (i,e 25 candidates for every vacancy), subject to availability of sufficient number of eligible registered candidates till the ratio of 1 :25 is attained.
  2. The shortlisted candidates will be required to appear in Stage-I (Written Examination) where minimum qualifying marks shall be 50% for Unreserved category and 40% for reserved categories.
  3. The candidates, who are shortlisted on the basis of their merit position in Stage-I (Written Examination) and reservation policy, shall only be called for Stage-Il (Interview) in the ratio of 1:4 (No of vacancies: No of candidates).
  4. Out of maximum 50 marks for Stage-Il (Interview), minimum qualifying marks will be 50% marks for unreserved category and 40% marks for reserved category candidates.
  5. Final selection will be based on meeting the prescribed essential eligibility criteria and on the basis of GATE Score, marks obtained in Stage-I (Written Examination) and in Stage-Il (Interview) for each category in the respective subject/ field. For preparation of the consolidated merit list for final selection, 50% weightage will be given to GATE Score, 30% weightage will be given to marks obtained in Stage-I (Written Examination) and 20% weightage will be given to marks obtained in Stage-Il (Interview).
  6. The service conditions for the post of Scientist ‘B’ in NT RO include “field service; including service on high altitude / hard areas / sea platform” at the discretion of the competent authority in NTRO in public interest. Therefore, the appointment to the post is subject to fulfillment of medical standards / fitness duly certified by the Medical Board. Mere selection will not entitle the candidate for appointment unless he/she is declared medically FIT to join the post. Candidates should note that for the purpose of Medical Fitness, ‘Color Vision Deficiency’ is considered as one of the reasons for being ‘UNFIT’ for appointment to the said post.
  7. Success in this recruitment process confers no right of appointment unless Government is satisfied after such enquiry/verification, as may be considered necessary, that the candidate is suitable in all respects for appointment to the service/post.
  8. The information furnished by the candidates during online application/registration will be verified with reference to their original documents subsequently. During such verification of documents, if any information furnished by the candidate at the time of online application/registration is found to be incorrect, his/her candidature will be cancelled/rejected forthwith. No appeal or representation against such cancellation/rejection of candidature will be entertained. The candidates must ensure that they have furnished correct information during the online application/registration.
  9. The candidates will be arranged in order of merit, in each category, based on GATE Score, Stage-I (Written Examination) arid in Stage-Il (Interview) for the respective subject/ field. In the event of tie in total marks of candidates, the order of their merit will be decided by applying the following criteria, one after another in the given order, till the tie is resolved: –
  1. GATE Score – with the candidate obtaining higher score, being placed higher;
  2. Marks in Written Examination – with the candidate obtaining higher marks in the written examination, being placed higher.
  3. Date of birth – with the candidate older in age, being placed higher.
  1. Appropriate method of normalization, if required, shall be adopted.
  2. The offer of appointment to the selected candidates will be restricted to the number of vacancies in order of merit. The appointment, however, will be subject to satisfying conditions like qualifying the Medical Examination prescribed for Group ‘A’ posts under Government of India with Field Service liability and verification of character & antecedents besides verification of requisite documents/certificates in support of their claim for age, category and educational qualification etc.

  2.     10. One Photo Identity Card, viz., Aadhaar Card/ PAN Card/ Passport/ Driving License/ Voter Card issued by State/Central Government (clear & legible pdf file with size of minimum 120 KB & maximum 300 KB), This Photo ID card will be used for all future referencing and the candidate is advised to carry this photo ID card while appearing for Examination/interview.
  1. After submitting the ONLINE application form, the candidate should take printout of application form having application number and other details. This application number should be referred to in future correspondence.
  2. No request for change in particulars furnished in the ONLINE application/registration form shall be entertained/ permitted and the particulars provided by the applicant during the online application/registration will be taken as final.
  3. Candidates already in Government service or working with PSUs/Autonomous Bodies should inform their Employer or obtain necessary permission, as the case may be, before applying for the said post. No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Employer is required to be furnished at the time of Interview or as and when called for. However, the candidate should apply for the post only under intimation to and with the prior permission of the employer. A candidate who may gain/ change employment after applying for the post, is required to inform the employer the particulars of his/ her application and shall mandatorily submit NOC at the time of Interview. Any candidate, who fails to submit NOC in original at the time of interview, shall not be permitted to appear in the interview.
  4. Candidates should be willing to undergo biometric verification, if and when required.
  5. Consequent upon final selection, only the Roll Number/Registration Number of the selected candidates will be made available in the said website(s). However, no other details of the selection process will be available for general information. The candidates, who are empaneled for appointment after selection, will be intimated through e-mail / Speed Post for processing pre-appointment formalities viz.   6. No TA/DA shall be paid to the candidates for appearing in the Written Examination and/or Interview.

  8. NTRO reserves the right not to fill up all or any of the posts, if it so desires.

  10. Multiple applications may lead to rejection of candidature. Therefore, applicants should avoid submitting multiple applications.
