NTPC was founded on 7^th November 1975 by Government of India under companies’ act 1978. On 19^th March 1976, Shri DV Kapoor took charge as the first Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC. Government of India has further divested 9.5% shares through OFS route in February 2013. With this, GOI’s holding in NTPC has reduced from 84.5% to 75%. The rest is held by Institutional Investors, banks and Public. Presently, GOI holding in NTPC is 51.10%.
