RRB JE 2025 for 2585 Junior Engineer Posts

Call to action to all the talented and budding engineers. Railway Recruitment Board is looking to hire young and talented candidates for 2585 junior engineer posts. Candidates looking for secure and stable job opportunities in the government sector, read further to know everything about the job advertisement.

In 2024, RRB released 7951 vacancies, and now, one year later in 2025, they have released over 2500 vacancies. As per the tentative schedule, the RRB JE 2025 CBT 1 examination is expected to be conducted from 19th to 20th February and on 3rd March 2026. This presents a great opportunity for all budding engineers.

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for various posts of Junior Engineer, Depot Material Superintendent, (Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant, Chemical Supervisor (Research) and Metallurgical Supervisor (Research).

choose any one Exam Group, provided he/she opts for the post(s) whose educational qualification is mapped to the chosen exam group. However, these candidates would be eligible for all the opted posts. Accordingly, “Chemical and Metallurgical Supervisor” Exam Group is mandatory for Level-7.

b) The educational qualification for the post of DMS (Depot Material Superintendent) is Three Years Diploma in Engineering i.e., a candidate with Three Years Diploma in any of Engineering disciplines, can apply for these posts as applicable. Candidates with educational qualifications not figuring in the above chart and eligible for DMS posts have to choose any one of the above listed Exam Groups other than CMA Exam Group, during the registration for online applications of this CEN

Examination Fee

Candidates will have to pay the prescribed fee as per their community/category detailed below:

For all candidates (except categories mentioned below at SI. No. 2). Out of this fee of ₹500/-, an amount of ₹400/- shall be refunded duly deducting bank charges, on appearing in 1st stage CBT. ₹500/-

Note: Only candidates who attend 1st stage CBT will get a refund of their  examination fee as mentioned above.

Modes of Fee Payment

  1. Online fee payment only through internet banking, debit/credit cards or UPI will be accepted. All applicable service charges shall be borne by the candidate.
  2. Fees can be paid by the candidates through online mode only. There will be no option to pay fees through any other mode.
  3. Applications received without the prescribed fee shall not be considered and will be summarily rejected. No representation against such rejection will be entertained.

Nationality / Citizenship

A Candidate must be either:

  1. a citizen of India, or
  2. a citizen of Nepal, or
  3. a subject of Bhutan, or
  4. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before 01.01.1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  5. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
  6. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above, shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

Refund of Examination Fee (for those attending 1st Stage CBT):

  1. All candidates must clearly mention the bank details (Name of Bank, Name of Account Holder, Account Number and IFSC Code) in their application form for receiving the refundable portion of their examination fee (i.e., ₹400/- or ₹250/- as applicable, duly deducting bank charges etc.).
  2. The responsibility for furnishing correct bank account details lies on the candidates and RRB shall not entertain any correspondence from candidates on this ground.
  3. There will be no refund of examination fee for erroneous, incomplete, or rejected applications.

Recruitment Process

  1. Candidates should apply only through online mode through the official websites of any RRBs. Candidates can apply to only one RRB and only one common online application (in order of preference for any or all the notified posts). The selection of RRB once exercised shall be final. Application to more than one RRB by a candidate will lead to rejection of all the applications.
  2. The recruitment process shall comprise of the following stages:
  1.  1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-I)
  2.  2nd Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-II)
  3.  Document Verification (DV)
  4.  Medical Examination (ME)
  1. Information on examination schedule and venues will be given to eligible candidates in due course through RRB websites, SMS and/or email.
  2. Request for postponement of any of the stages or for change of venue, date and shift will not be entertained under any circumstances

1st Stage CBT (Common for all notified posts of this CEN)

Duration : 90 minutes (120 Minutes for eligible PwBD candidates accompanied with Scribe)

The 1st stage CBT is of screening nature and the standard of questions for the CBT will be generally in conformity with the educational standards and/or minimum technical qualifications prescribed for the posts. The normalized score of 1 st stage exam shall be used only for short listing of candidates for 2nd stage exam as per their merit. Candidates who are shortlisted for 2nd stage CBT availing the reservation benefits of a community, PwBD and ExSM shall continue to be considered only against that community for all subsequent stages of recruitment process.

  1. The section wise distribution given in the above table is only indicative and there may be some variations in the actual question papers.
  2. Minimum percentage of marks for eligibility in various categories: UR -40%, EWS-40%, OBC-30%, SC-30%, ST -25%. These percentage of marks for eligibility may be relaxed by 2% for PwBD candidates in case of shortage of PwBD candidates against vacancies reserved for them.

Syllabus for 1st stage

The Questions will be of objective type with multiple choices and are likely to include questions pertaining to:

  1. Mathematics: Number systems, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM and HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern.
  2. General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and Decision Making, Similarities and Differences, Analytical reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions etc.
  3. General Awareness: Knowledge of Current affairs, Indian geography, culture and history of India including freedom struggle, Indian Polity and constitution, Indian Economy, Environmental issues concerning India and the World, Sports, General Scientific and technological developments etc.
  4. General Science: Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences (up to 10th Standard CBSE syllabus).

2nd Stage CBT

Short listing of Candidates for the 2nd Stage CBT exam shall be based on the normalized marks obtained by them in the 1st Stage CBT Exam. Total number of candidates to be shortlisted for 2 nd Stage shall be 15 times the community

wise total vacancy of Posts notified against the RRB as per their merit in 1st Stage CBT. However, Railways reserve the right to increase/decrease this limit in total or for any specific category(s) as required to ensure availability of adequate candidates for all the notified posts.

Duration : 120 minutes (160 Minutes for eligible PwBD candidates accompanied with Scribe)

The syllabus for General Awareness,

Physics and Chemistry, Basics of Computers and Applications, Basics of Environment and Pollution Control is common for all notified posts under this CEN as detailed below:

  1. General Awareness: Knowledge of Current affairs, Indian geography, culture and history of India including freedom struggle, Indian Polity and Constitution, Indian Economy, Environmental issues concerning India and the World, Sports, General Scientific and Technological Developments etc.
  2. Physics and Chemistry: Up to 10th standard CBSE syllabus.
  3. Basics of Computers and Applications: Architecture of Computers; Input and Output devices; Storage devices, Networking, Operating System like Windows, Unix, Linux; MS Office; Various data representation; Internet and Email; Websites & Web Browsers; Computer Virus.
  4. Basics of Environment and Pollution Control: Basics of Environment; Adverse effect of environmental pollution and control strategies; Air, water and Noise pollution, their effect and control; Waste Management, Global warming; Acid rain; Ozone depletion.
  5. Technical Abilities: The detailed syllabus for the technical ability section is mentioned in the official notification [Pg 33] linked below:

Shortlisting of Candidates for 2nd Stage CBT, DV and Empanelment

Short listing of Candidates for the DV shall be based on the normalized marks obtained by them in 2nd Stage CBT. The normalization scheme to be adopted for shortlisting the candidates from 1st Stage CBT to 2nd Stage CBT and for DV on the basis of performance in 2nd Stage CBT.

Document Verification

  1. Candidates will be shortlisted for Document Verification based on their marks and merit in the 2 nd stage CBT and options. The number of shortlisted candidates will be equal to the number of vacancies.
  2. In case two or more candidates secure equal marks, their merit position shall be determined by age criteria i.e., the older candidate shall be given higher merit than the younger candidate.
  3. Appointment of selected candidates is subject to their passing the requisite Medical Fitness Test to be conducted by the Railway Administration and final verification of all essential documents and verification of antecedents / character of the candidates.

*NOTE: Candidates may please note that RRBs only recommend names of the empanelled candidates and appointment is offered ONLY by the respective Railway Administrations.

How to Apply

  1. Candidates must read all the information and instructions carefully before filling the online application to prevent mistakes.
  2. Candidates must first ‘Create an account’ for this CEN through the link given in the official RRB websites. They must have an active personal mobile number and a valid email ID for receiving OTPs for account creation. No change in details filled in ‘Create an Account’ form (including mobile number and email ID) will be permitted later. If a candidate has already created an Account for CENs notified in 2025, he/she should use the same account  credentials to log in and apply for this CEN (i.e., CEN No. 03/2025) as well.
  3. Candidates can apply for the notified posts of any one RRB as per their  eligibility only through ONLINE application mode by visiting the official website of RRBs. Read all the Information and Instructions detailed in the CEN thoroughly before starting the filling up of application by clicking the EN.03/2025 Link on the RRB Website. It is essential that the candidate understands all information of the CEN correctly to prevent any mistakes while filling the application.
  4. Candidates can use the services of the Common Services Centre, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India under the Digital India initiatives for submitting online applications. The Common Services Centre (CSC) scheme is a part of the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) of the Government of India and is managed at each village Panchayat level by a Village Level Entrepreneur (VLE). There are more than 1.5 lakhs Common Services Centres (CSC) across the country which will provide the desired support to candidates from urban as well as rural areas in the online submission of the Application Form and payment of fee through e-wallet.
  5. The onus of proving the validity of the information submitted in the online application with original documents, will lie on the candidates.

  7. All the communication regarding the important selection process shall be advised through the concerned RRB official websites.
  8. However, in addition to the above, candidates must keep their personal mobile number and personal email ID active throughout the recruitment process, so that communication can be sent through SMS and/or email.
  9. RRBs will not entertain any request for change of mobile number and email address at any stage.
  10. Candidates are advised to carefully note and remember their Registration Number for further stages of recruitment process and correspondence with RRBs.

Candidates must ensure that they possess/fulfill all the prescribed educational and technical qualifications for the post on or before the closing date for submitting application against this CEN.   2. Eligibility of the candidates will be provisional based on details furnished by the candidates in the ONLINE application. The RRB will not undertake detailed scrutiny of applications for the eligibility, therefore, candidature will be accepted only provisionally subject to fulfilling basic eligibility criteria as required. Candidates must go through the requirements of educational qualification, age, medical standards etc. and satisfy themselves that they are eligible for the concerned post. The certificates / documents in support of their Educational Qualifications and Age / Caste / Category / Community, etc. shall be sought at the time of Document Verification by RRB. After scrutiny of the certificates / documents of educational qualifications / age / caste / category / community, etc., if any claim made in the application is not substantiated by certificates / documents, the candidature of candidate will be cancelled.

Scale of Pay: (i) Junior Engineer (JE), Depot Material Superintendent (DMS) and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant (CMA): Level 6 (RSRP 7th CPC Pay Matrix.) with initial pay of ₹35,400/-, plus other allowances admissible at that time. (ii) Chemical Supervisor / Research and Metallurgical Supervisor / Research Level 7 (RSRP 7th CPC Pay Matrix.) with initial pay of ₹ 44,900/-, plus other allowances admissible at that time.

RRB-wise shortlisting of candidates for 2nd Stage CBT shall normally be done at the rate of 15 times the number of vacancies (that may increase or decrease as per the requirement of Railway Administration). The shortlisting for 2 nd Stage CBT will be based on the merit of the candidates in the 1st Stage CBT as per reservation of vacancies as applicable. The RRB-wise shortlisted candidates for 2nd Stage CBT, shall be informed through the official websites of RRBs and via e-mail to download their e-call letter for appearing in the 2nd Stage CBT.
  1. Negative Marking: There will be negative marking @1/3rd mark of allotted mark for every wrong answer in CBT.

Banned Items: Candidates carrying banned items like communication devices and electronic gadgets (mobile phones, Bluetooth, pen drive, laptops, calculators, smart watches), bangles, chains, bracelets, hearing aids, wallets/purses, belts, shoes, metallic wears, etc., or any stationery items like pen/pencil, shall NOT be allowed to appear in the exam. Any violation shall lead to disqualification besides legal action and debarment from future recruitment exams. Cloak room arrangement for safe-keeping of belongings may not be available at the exam venues. Therefore, candidates are advised not to bring any valuables/banned items including mobile phones etc. to the examination venue.

Medical Standards

Candidates called for DV will have to pass requisite medical fitness test(s) conducted by the Railway Administration to ensure that they are medically fit to carry out the duties connected with the post(s) opted for by them. Visual Acuity Standard is an important medical fitness for Railway Service. The medical requirements against different medical standards for different categories are outlined below:
