Congratulations to all the engineers. POWERGRID is looking for Bright, Committed, and Energetic ENGINEERING GRADUATES to join its fold as ENGINEER TRAINEEs tentatively in the discipline of Electrical / Electronics/ Civil / Computer Science through GATE 2023.

POWERGRID, a ‘Maharatna’ Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, Government of India is engaged in the power transmission business with the mandate for planning, coordination, supervision, and control over a complete Inter-State Transmission System.

POWERGRID operates approximately 1,76,180 km of transmission lines and 275 substations (as of September 30, 2023), carrying 45% of India’s transmission capacity of total power generated in the country through its transmission network. POWERGRID also owns and maintains an approximately 1,00,000 kilometer telecommunications network in India with points of presence in 662 locations, points of interconnection in 2408 locations and an intra-city network in 300 cities.

POWERGRID, with its extensive in-house knowledge in the Transmission, Sub-Transmission, Distribution, and Telecom sectors, also provides national and international consultancy services. POWERGRID has been profitable since its beginning, with a gross turnover of Rs. 45,968.07 crores and an after-tax profit of Rs. 15,226.32 Crores. (FY: 2022-23).

Central Transmission Utility of India Limited (CTUIL): There are also openings for the position of ENGINEER TRAINEE at CTUIL, which is currently a wholly owned subsidiary of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited. CTUIL, Incorporated on 28.12.2020, CTUIL is in the process of separation from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited.

CTUIL shall function as an independent utility and shall be responsible for discharging functions of national importance in relation to its statutory functions under Section 38 of the Electricity Act, 2003, which include, undertaking transmission of electricity through Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS), to discharge all the functions of planning and co-ordination related to ISTS, and providing non-discriminatory open access to the same.

As a national utility, CTUIL will actively invest in human capital, contributing to the overall development and growth of the Indian power sector.

Reservation/ Relaxation for OBC (NCL) will be subject to the submission of a copy of the OBC (NCL) certificate along with the NCL declaration in the format prescribed by the Govt. of India for “Appointment to Posts under the Government of India” from a competent authority at the time of application and interview if called for.

Selection Process:

The Selection Process consists of normalized marks acquired (out of 100) in the GATE 2023 corresponding paper, behavioral assessment, group discussion, and personal interview.

Eligible candidates must have qualified and received a valid score in the corresponding paper of GATE 2023.

Candidates will be shortlisted for the behavioral assessment, group discussion, and personal interview based solely on their normalized scores out of 100 in the corresponding exam from GATE -2023 and as determined by the Directorate. Candidates have the option to take the GD /interview either in Hindi or English.

Candidates shall obtain information about their status by logging in to the POWERGRID Online Application System. Shortlisted candidates shall be able to download their interview call letter and other relevant documents through the candidate login.

Candidates shortlisted for the Group Discussion and Interview shall be required to bring the documents as mentioned in their interview call letter.

Candidates must qualify in the Personal Interview in order to be considered for empanelment. The qualifying % in interview for different categories is as mentioned below:

UR Vacancy including EWS 40%
Reserved Vacancy 30% (Depending on reservation of vacancies only)

 

Group discussion will not have any Qualifying Marks.

Weightage to Different Parameters:

For calculation of the final score of a candidate for empanelment, the weightage of marks obtained in GATE 2023, Group Discussion, and Interview shall be as indicated below:

Empanelment of Candidates:

Candidates selected for the GD and interview may have to undergo behavioral assessment, the results of which shall be used as input during the interview. Candidates who qualify for the Personal Interview will only be considered for empanelment.

As a result, candidates must have qualified in both the GATE 2023 and the Personal Interview in order to be considered eligible for empanelment.

Please note that only GATE 2023 score (Normalized Marks out of 100) is valid for this recruitment process. A GATE score of 2022 or prior is not valid.

The empanelment shall be done on the basis of total vacancies and not separately for POWERGRID & CTUIL. Operation of the panel shall be done on the basis of option/preference exercised by the candidate at the time of applying.

The offer of appointment shall be issued to the suitable candidates in the order of category-wise merit and based on the requirement. Selected candidates shall be notified through their login in the Online application system

Once a candidate gets an offer from either POWERGRID / CTUIL, her/his candidature for other organization may automatically be treated as canceled, even if she/he declines the offer/ does not join the organization. The Offer is issued to the candidate for POWERGRID / CTUIL (as applicable), on the basis of the number of vacancies and rank in overall merit. The offer issued shall be withdrawn and canceled in case the candidate does not wish to join POWERGRID / CTUIL (as applicable) or declines the offer. No request for a change of organization shall be entertained.

Appointment of selected candidates shall be subject to them being found medically fit in the Pre- Pre-Employment Medical Examination to be conducted as per POWERGRID Norms and Standards of Medical Fitness.

Posting locations for selected candidates are likely to be in POWERGRID/CTUIL offices, substations, and construction sites spread all across the country and abroad.

Compensation Package

The Corporation offers a very attractive pay package and is one of the best in the industry. Selected candidates will be placed in the pay scale of Rs.40,000/- -3%- 1,40,000(IDA) during the one-year training period. They shall be paid Basic Pay of Rs. 40,000/- along with IDA, HRA, and Perks @12% of basic pay during the training period.

Following satisfactory completion of training and regularization, the candidate will be hired as an Engineer in the E2 scale – Rs. 50,000/- 3%- 1,60,000/- (IDA). Compensation package with regularization includes basic pay, dearness allowance, cafeteria approach perquisites and allowances, performance-related pay, Company Leased Accommodation / Company Quarters or HRA, Reimbursement of monthly conveyance expenditure, mobile facility reimbursement, laptop facility, PF, Gratuity, Pension and leave encashment, Group Insurance, Group Personal Accident Insurance, medical facilities for self and dependents, etc.

The Corporation also offers excellent facilities like Short- and Long-term Loans & Advances in subsidized rates including House Building Advances, etc. to its regular employees in accordance with the policies of the organization from time to time.

 

Service Agreement Bond

The selected candidates will be required to execute a service agreement bond to successfully complete the prescribed training period and thereafter serve the organization for at least three years.

The amount of the bond is INR 5,00,000/- for General/OBC (NCL)/EWS candidates and INR 2,50,000/- for SC/ST/PwBD candidates, plus applicable taxes.

 

Important Instructions for registration/ application

Interested & eligible candidates have to register themselves online irrespective of the applications made earlier for any other post/recruitment process in POWERGRID/ CTUIL, at the POWERGRID website https://www.powergrid.in with details of their GATE-2023 registration number and other required information.

The GATE Registration No., as shown on the GATE-2023 Admit Card/Score Card, must be carefully inserted in the online application form. While applying, no other number should be entered as a GATE- 2023 Registration number.

Please note that once your application has been submitted, no requests for changes to your GATE-2023 Registration Number or Name will be considered.

Fill your name and other information exactly as it appears on your GATE-2023 Admit Card/Score Card.

Any other method of application submission will be rejected.

  1. Fill up other details in the application very carefully. Please take care while filling out the email/ alternative email fields since all important communication shall be through emails only.
  2. Upon completion, the candidate should submit the online application by clicking the Submit button at the bottom of the page. If the same is accepted, the system will generate a unique Registration Number which shall appear in the completed application form.
  3. The primary email ID entered by the candidate is the Login ID and the unique Registration Number generated is the password for logging in to the POWERGRID Online application system.
  4. If you are not exempted from payment of application fees (only SC/ST/Pw BD/Ex-SM/D-ExSM candidates are exempted), you are required to login to your candidate login section and then deposit non-refundable application fees of Rs. 500/- through online mode. On submission of application fees, your application process will be treated as complete.
  5. No hard copy of the application is required to be sent to any address by post.
  6. Incomplete applications/applications without application fees (if applicable) will be rejected.
  7. Candidates will be required to bring their GATE 2023 Admit card and GATE 2023 Score card for verification at the time of GD/ Interview / Joining in POWERGRID/ CTUIL.
  8. Candidates will have to upload their most recent color passport-size photograph (.jpg file size not to exceed 50 kb), a scanned copy of their signature (.jpg file size not to exceed 30 kb), caste certificate/disability certificate/discharge certificate/age relaxation cum domicile certificate, and qualification final passing certificate.
  9. Candidates will have to give their name and date of birth exactly as mentioned on their birth certificate or class Xth marksheet/certificate. Candidates will have to correctly define their category and must be in a position to submit a relevant certificate in the prescribed format as and when asked by POWERGRID/ CTUIL.
  10. Application once submitted cannot be altered. Accordingly, no request for change in applicant data after submission of the online application shall be entertained.
  11. Candidates must correctly enter the qualification details including the date of acquiring qualification as mentioned in their certificates.
  12. Candidate should take a printout of the completed application and keep it with him/ her safely for future reference.
  13. If the candidate is called for GD and interview, her/ his identity will be verified with a GATE- 2023 admit card and Original GATE-2023 score card. Therefore, candidates are requested to retain their GATE 2023 admit card and scorecard with them.
  14. Candidates shall be required to bring a valid photo ID to the interview. Photocopies of the original identification document shall not be acceptable. Candidates will not be permitted to appear for the group discussion and interview if original and valid photo identification is not presented along with the GATE 2023 admit card and score card.

General Information and Instructions

  1. Only Indian Nationals of age 18 years or above are eligible to apply for POWERGRID/CTUIL.
  2. Before applying, the candidate should ensure that he/she fulfills the eligibility criteria and other norms mentioned in this advertisement.
  3. The necessary qualifications must be recognized in India and obtained from a recognized institution or university.
  4. The date of issuance of the final mark sheet shall be considered the date of qualification.
  5. Vacancies are for requirement all over the country, mostly site locations. Selected candidates shall be posted for OJT and final postings accordingly.
  6. Management reserves the right to cancel/restrict/enlarge/modify/alter the recruitment/ selection process, if the need so arises, without issuing any further notice or assigning any reason thereafter.
  7. Wherever CGPA/OGPA/DGPA or Letter Grade in a degree/diploma is awarded, its equivalent percentage of marks must be indicated in the application form as per norms adopted by the University / Institute.
  8. The percentage of marks acquired by the candidate in the bachelor’s degree shall be calculated based on the practice followed by the university/institution from where the candidate has obtained the degree. In case the candidates are awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of grades/CGPA to a percentage of marks shall be based on the procedure certified by the university/ institution from where they have obtained the bachelor’s degree.
    In case the university/ institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing the candidate’s CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result with 100.
  9. Marks in Essential Qualification will not be rounded off for deciding the eligibility of any candidate.
  10. Candidates working in government/ PSUs are required to produce “No Objection Certificate” at the time of the Interview. Candidates claiming reservation under OBC (NCL)/EWS should belong to the respective category as on the last date of online submission of application to POWERGRID/ CTUIL and must possess a valid OBC (NCL)/EWS certificate as on the last date of submission of online application.
  11. Candidates selected in POWERGRID are liable to be posted anywhere in India and Abroad.
  12. Candidature is liable to be rejected at any stage of the recruitment/ selection process without notice or if joined services are liable to be terminated, if any information provided by the candidate is not found in conformity with the eligibility criteria notified or POWERGRID/ CTUIL comes across any evidence/ knowledge that the qualification/ experience /and any other particulars indicated in application/personal resume/ other forms/ formats are not recognized/ false/ misleading and/or amounts to suppression of information/ particulars which should have been brought to the notice of POWERGRID/ CTUIL or that the candidate has been shortlisted for next stage in the process/ has secured employment in POWERGRID/ CTUIL through or adopting any unfair means.
