Coal India Limited (CIL), a Maharatna company is an Indian state-controlled coal mining company headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal, India and the largest coal-producing company in the world Coal India Limited (CIL) produces coal through seven of its wholly owned subsidiaries. These are Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), South-Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), Northern Coalfield Limited (NCL), and Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL).

Its 8th wholly owned subsidiary Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL) provides exploration, planning, and technical support to all 7 production subsidiaries. CMPDIL also provides consulting services to third-party market clients in the field of exploration, mining, allied engineering and testing, management systems, training, etc.

Coal India Limited is a Maharatna public sector undertaking under the ministry of Coal, Government of India. It is the single largest coal producing company in the world and one of the largest corporate employers in the country. Coal India Limited operates 413 mines in 82 mining areas across the country. CIL also has a wholly owned subsidiary in Mozambique, Coal India Africana Limited (CIAL) for pursuing coal mining opportunities in that country.

Coal India Limited invites applications to recruit the GATE qualified candidates for the post of Management Trainees. The GATE applicants are eligible to apply for Coal India Limited Recruitment. The recruitment is of various branches of engineering like Mining, Electrical, mechanical, civil, chemical/mineral, electronics, telecommunication, industrial, environment, and IT.

In this article, we would like to talk about Coal India Limited Management Trainee recruitment, and therefore the blog post is divided into five parts:

A. Eligibility criteria

  1. Only Indian Nationals are allowed to apply.

  2. Age limit:

The upper age limit for the Coal India Management Trainee is 30 years for General (UR) category candidates. However, some relaxations are also provided like:

  1. Upper age relaxation for SC/ST candidates is 5 years.
  2. Upper age relaxation for the OBC candidates (non-creamy layer) is 3 years while there is no age relaxation for the OBC creamy layer.
  3. Upper age relaxation for the PWD-UR is 10 years, PWD-OBC (non-creamy layer) is 13 years and for PWD-SC/ST candidates the relaxation is 15 years. There is no age relaxation for the OBC creamy layer.

There is no age limit and no application fee for candidates working in Coal India Limited or any of its subsidiary companies.

Candidates belonging to Jammu & Kashmir who were domiciled ordinarily in that state between 01.01.1980 and 31.12.1989 have 5-year relaxation in the upper age limit.

One can apply to the mentioned posts if they fulfill the eligibility criteria and the educational qualifications mentioned by the Coal India Management trainee recruitment notification. 6. Electronics and Telecommunication Candidates should have got a minimum of 60% marks/equivalent CGPA in B.E./B.Tech (Electronics and Telecommunication) respectively from a Govt. recognized University/Institute.
7. Industrial Engineering Candidates should have got a minimum of 60% marks/equivalent CGPA in B.E./B.Tech (Industrial) respectively from a Govt. recognized University/Institute.
8. Systems/IT Candidates should have got a minimum of 60% marks/equivalent CGPA in B.E./B.Tech (computer science, computer engineering, IT) or MCA respectively from a Govt. recognized University/Institute.
9. Materials Management Candidates should have got a minimum of 60% marks /equivalent CGPA in B.E./B.Tech (Electrical) with MBA/PG Diploma in Management respectively from a Govt. recognized University/Institute.

 

  1. The above minimum marks are for General & OBC category candidates. For SC/ST & PH candidates, 5% relaxation in qualification is given in minimum marks.
  2. Final year/semester students who expect their results that year may also apply. However, the minimum criteria of marks shall also apply in the case of the candidates with a completed degree.

B. Selection Procedure:

The selection procedure for the Coal India Management Trainee is simple, which consist of two online Objective type exam with 100 questions each.

Important points:

  • The examination is a Computer Based Online Test total of 3 hours. It consists of two papers: General Awareness and Professional Knowledge.
  • The paper is an objective type paper with multiple choice answers in each paper.
  • The candidates must qualify all the examinations with the medical examination to receive a selection for the Management Trainee post of Coal India.
  • The selection process aims to test the candidate’s knowledge and judge him/her on different facets of knowledge, skills, comprehension, aptitude, and physical fitness.
  • For each correct answer, the checker awards one mark to the candidate. Each wrong answer leads to a reduction of one mark.
  • The paper is set in bilingual languages, i.e., English and Hindi.
  • The qualifying marks for the computer-based test include the following:

General (UR): Minimum 40 marks in each paper.

OBC (non-creamy layer): Minimum 35 marks in each paper.

SC/ST/PWD: Minimum 30 marks in each paper.

The concerned team calls the candidates who qualify for the computer-based test for the interview. The respective team decides the list of the candidates according to the merit in the ratio of 1:3.

Interview

All the candidates who qualify for the computer-based test- both the papers separately and rank high on merit as decided by Coal India will be called for the Interview.

Candidates (for all categories of posts) called for Interview shall be paid to & fro sleeper class Railway fare for journey by the shortest route between Railway Station nearest to hometown & the Interview location.

Coal India Management Trainee Job Profile:

  • After one has cleared the Coal India Management Trainee examination one is posted in CIL or any of its subsidiary companies.

They will have to serve the corporation for a minimum period of 60 months. The selected candidates sign a bond of Rs. 3 lakhs with Coal India Limited.

The respective department deducts an amount of Rs. 5000 from the selected candidate’s salary for 60 months, which will be refunded with interest on completion of 60 months.

 

Training:

All the Management Trainee candidates selected have to undergo intensive training for the prescribed duration before posting on the job. The Corporation has the right to increase or reduce the training period at its discretion for the trainees.

Probation: The selected candidates (on regular posts) on appointment will be on probation for one year.

In case the corporation finds the candidate’s performance unsatisfactory, it has the right to terminate the candidate’s service during the probation under the terms and conditions of the offer of appointment and receipt of a satisfactory police report.

The candidates can be posted anywhere in the subsidiary companies, especially in coalfield areas.

The selected candidates are required to serve for a minimum of 60 months.
