UPSC announced the results of ESE Prelims-2018 on 17th February, 2018 and Main examination was conducted on 1st July, 2018 in 24 cities across the nation. ESE is the most prestigious examination which recruits engineers for Group-A posts in various reputed central government departments.
ESE Main examination comprises of two conventional type papers on the chosen engineering discipline. Each Paper is of 3 hours duration and 300 Marks. Mains paper is subjective in nature and consist of eight questions divided in two sections. Candidate has to attempt five questions in total. Question no. 1 and 5 are compulsory and out of remaining, three questions has to be attempted choosing at least one from each section. QCAB booklets are provided in Main examination, where answer writing, presentation skills and time management play an important role in scoring good marks.
As per official notice, UPSC plans to recruit a total of 588 engineers. The total number of candidates who qualified ESE Preliminary examination are as follows:

The Next Step:
Mains qualifying students will be called for Personality Test/Interview, which consists of 200 marks. The results of Mains will be tentatively announced in last week of July or first week of August,2018. As per previous analysis; students equivalent to thrice the number of vacancies will be called for an Interview/Personality Test. Personality test is conducted to test the technical abilities, communication skills, team spirit, leadership, general awareness and overall personality of the candidate.
