Classroom teaching has come to a sudden halt and thus, severely impacted education in India. Although a gradual shift towards virtual teachers, digital classrooms, and online classes has begun it remains experimental until results prove otherwise. In this article, we will discuss the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on education in India, the good and the bad. How the gradual shift from classroom teaching to online classes is taking place and how it impacts the learners. Towards the end, are some tips that the students can follow to be least impacted from how they get the required knowledge, but how to utilize it the maximum.

  1. The gradual shift from conventional classroom learning to digital classrooms: Online learning platforms are not something new, that we are looking at. They have been in existence for a long time and have been even in use by many learners, who could not access, afford or spare a year for classroom learning. Though, largely students used to rely on online learning only as an addition to their regular correspondence course or classroom learning. In recent times, the trend of online learning platforms other than YouTube channels has started to emerge. Digital classrooms are becoming the new face of learning all over the world.
Though a challenge posed by this new education system lies in the discipline required, both for the educator as well as the learner. The online classes need more preparation at the educator’s end and more attention at the learner’s. Those students who are new to this face all the more problems adjusting to and using the technology, the teaching methodology, and in short, being on their own in this era of digital classrooms.
  1. Learners are more independent than ever with teachers gone virtual: As the education system has moved towards being completely online, teachers becoming virtual and classrooms digital; many students are facing unprecedented challenges. Many aspirants had had a hard time only switching to the virtual calculator for the GATE Examination. Now with the complete education system gone online, lack of resources, lack of knowledge, unawareness about technology, and most of all, the absence of counseling and guidance from a mentor is making education in India a challenge for the mentors and their students. The environment that you face while learning in a classroom, with numerous like-minded aspirants does in no way compare with the digital classroom in India. Distractions are much harder to avoid when you use a digital form of learning. Not to say, India needs to cope with it well enough and students need to be even more prepared as another setback that comes with the Covid-19 pandemic would be the lesser number of vacancies in every sector for jobs.
  2. Competition is not getting any lesser: Those who can make an opportunity even out of the toughest times are the ones that always sail through whatever may come. Due to the decreased number of vacancies in government sectors and even fewer students being taken away by private sectors, aspirants are more likely to look forward to a secure option. This is a trend, followed by aspirants, a number of times in the past as well. As there is a recession in the private sector, a number of aspirants for civil services and government jobs suddenly shoots. This increases the competition for aspirants, who were already preparing for the exam.

Talking specifically about engineering graduates, most of the graduates are more likely to appear for GATE 2022 or ESE 2021, who might have, otherwise gone for higher studies (CAT, GRE) or might have got placed through college. Education in India, at this point of time in the Covid-19 pandemic, has thus, become very important for aspirants to have a sustainable future. Coaching has become more important than before, with colleges converted into digital classrooms.

  1. As classrooms go digital, even tests are getting virtual: Some exams like the CAT, GATE, GRE, etc. have been conducted online for a long time now. The aspirants have become used to the process and practice accordingly. Though some other examination processes, such as the college or school midterms, the civil services, the ESE, SSC, and many others, have been conducted in offline mode only, since the beginning. How well you perform in a certain kind of exam starts right from the way how you prepare and practice for one. It is always advisable to take the tests for a certain kind of exam in the same mode that you are going to take the actual exam, be it online or offline. With the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, where high uncertainty surrounds the conduct of offline examination, it would be next to impossible to conduct mock tests or test series in offline mode for any coaching. This would be a drastic change as well as a challenge for education in India, as aspirants would practice online and then, appear offline for an examination. It is not that it is not possible, but yes, it would certainly pose some challenges for educators as well as learners.

Even though we know the changes in the education system due to the coronavirus have been untimely, sudden, and uncalled for, but, the wisest would be those who accept them, cope with them, and move forward. No matter how challenging the changes would be, still, aspirants would qualify; graduate and crack top the exams. Left behind would only be those, who thought a lot about the pandemic and gave it more of themselves than it deserved. Here are some tips that you, as an aspirant can follow to cope the best with the ongoing changes in the education system so that you are the least affected by them:

  1. Stop the blame game: It is long past the time when we could blame someone. Some authority, some country for the ongoing crisis and just get away with it. Anyway, who is to blame, what is to be done is none of your business, as a student. The more you stay away from these discussions, the better. Give your mind ample space and yourself, ample energy to invest in places, where it is needed by refraining from such discussions.
As an aspirant, you need to accept what is going on, the sooner you accept, the faster you move on. Acceptance is the first stage of moving forward towards achievement. As you accept, next you analyze.
  2. Utilize your only gift of the Covid-19 pandemic: Even if nothing else, the Covid-19 pandemic (Coronavirus) has given us all ample time. Time to analyze, to contemplate our actions, change our routes and invest without any time bounds on what we really aspire to do. Think of all the times you felt, you could practice more if you had a little more time. Every time you wanted to change your approach or way but thought it’s too late. Now is the time!
What is more important though is how you utilize it in the best productive way before time runs you out. Plan properly and use your time judiciously.
  • Nobody has it all and never will: Many of us have been locked away from our homes, many of us, away from our study places. While many aspirants long about how they have lack resources, many others are making the most out of the current situation. Digital classrooms in India are a new concept for everyone, even the educators, let alone the students. Online learning platforms see a new light that they never witnessed before.
No matter how few resources you have, if you have the will then that might just suffice. MADE EASY Prime has come up with several online courses to ensure that learning should never stop. This kind of online course requires the least resources, just a smartphone would do.
  1. Make the most of available resources: Analyze what you have on your plate right now and try to make the best out of it. Even if you have no books, try the e-books, if you do not have a previous questions’ compilation, go with the online test series. There are always options for those who look for them. In the worst case, if you have no notes at all, figure out 2-3 subjects that you studies most recently and polish them the best to your capacity.
Along with that, you can take the help of the virtual teachers available, the digital classrooms and with most of the coaching going online, you always have the required support and backing.
  2. We are all together in this: All in all, just don’t forget we are all together in this. The whole world is facing the coronavirus crisis and fighting against it. All your fellow aspirants are on the same page, maybe a little ahead, but the difference is not that vast, that your will can not overcome it. Those of us who fight it better will survive it better.

A Coronavirus Pandemic scenario is a once-in-a-century kind of situation. No doubt it has adversely affected the education system and brought drastic changes to it, but nothing is forever. This too shall pass. Moreover, all the changes that have been made are not all bad, there are bright sides to that, as well. For the aspirants: just enjoy the bright side, accept the shortcomings and let nothing come between you and your goal.
